I can see Carson winning up to 20% of the black vote in NC- many blacks are Christian conservatives who vote Democratic only because of the perceived racism of the GOP (see the results of the 2008 referendum on gay marriage, for instance)...

The problem with 2014 and the pollsters was the really low turnout election, which impacted almost all pollsters that did multi-state polls.

PPP generally did better in higher turnout states, such as CO, AK, NH etc.

I wouldn't write them off just because they did not so well in a 36% turnout election.

That took place on the day of a republican primary in the state. Of course the support statistics would be slightly weird.
