I'd probably have gone for ISIS (as a collective) since they emerged so suddenly and so radically reshaped the international landscape this year, but Putin is also a good choice, and I like CrabCake's suggestion of Narendra Modi.

Michael Brown would be my choice for "American person of the year" if such an award existed, but given all the significant international events that occurred this year, the largely domestic impact of Ferguson just doesn't cut it.

Increasingly so.  When I was born, the USA represented fifty percent of the world's aggregate GDP.  Now we're about twenty percent.

Some of you must receive your issues before I do.  I always learn what will be on its cover from this forum, typically a couple of days before mine is delivered.

Bad choice. They probably should have gone with Michael Brown.

Ugh. No.

I generally agree with the TIME Person of the Year pick. I just wish they wouldn't pick the winner of a Presidential election every 4 years.

Honestly, besides the obvious choices (Putin, Ebola Fighters) you could make a case for ISIS as a group (Al Baghdadi doesn't really have the charisma Bin Laden did), Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren and Angela Merkel.

How in the hell does Hillary or Warren influence 2014? They had zero impact. One of them isn't even in office. Seriously?

For people who had zero impact, everyone seems to be talking about both of them.
