Time to start bombing Pyongyang...They've crossed several "Red Lines" here.

As for shutting the movie down, it doesn't look like it would've been good anyways, so no loss there.

Erm, no.

So is Sony really caving just because of the association with terrorist threats, or is it possible that the hackers are still holding back some even more damning information that Sony really, really doesn't want to get leaked?

Well they're caving because the theaters caved. Once AMC, Regal, etc. said they weren't running it, Sony didn't really have a choice.

Altho, given the horrible reviews the movie has gotten, one wonders if the chains weren't merely using the threat as an excuse to get rid of a stinker, especially at Xmas time.

Maybe! Plus everyone will be watching INTO THE WOODS five or six times on Christmas weekend anyway.

Apparently Steve Carrell's NK-based gore film has been canceled as well. I guess if the GOP ever wants to get rid of Hollywood, they could strike a deal with Kim Jong-Un. Tongue

Can't believe there are people who are genuinely afraid of NK. It's laughable.

No one is afraid of North Korea, so I'd drop that narrative.  However, you don't just let a standing government infringe upon your citizens' rights, especially one of the most important ones (freedom of speech/expression).

Yeah, there are plenty of Chinese and Russian hacker "freelancers" out there. The North Koreans probably just found one and paid him a few million dollars. I doubt this is the work of whatever the North Korean CIA is.

Well, their main/only export industry is counterfeiting American currency, so they have funny money at least, and I'm sure whoever they paid can find a way to spend that somehow.

The precedent is not exactly a positive one, but I suspect that the film is no great loss.

This is honestly the bigger, if less symbolic, shame. Pyongyang sounded like it could have been a great movie and a turning point for Steve Carrell's career allowing him to enter into more serious major roles.

Shame. All if this is just beyond pathetic.

A number of theaters that had The Interview pulled decided to play Team America instead. However, Paramount has now banned them from doing so.

Can't believe there are people who are genuinely afraid of NK. It's laughable.

I got a computer virus from North Korea after I mocked the regime. I'm now about as cautious about criticizing North Korea on the web as I am about criticizing $cientology.

The terms "cut and run" and "cheese eating surrender monkeys" have been quite overused, but they are apt here.

They could still have released it through video-on-demand or direct-to-DVD. All the publicity it's received guarantees that a huge number of people will want to see it regardless of how good it is.
