I find it to be in VERY poor taste. Please keep that dour crucifixion nonsense out of our jolly and festive celebration of a baby's birth and the presents three strange men brought him that cold winter night.

(Inspired by a facial book post made by a certain dear friend of the forum.)

Utterly absurd from a religious standpoint. And considering that religion is probably the only reason one would even think about doing that...

I find the common use of a crucifix - a tool of torture and execution - to be slightly disturbing in itself. :/

Utterly absurd from a religious standpoint. The cross belongs at Easter, not Christmas.

Looks like some people have as much grasp on theology as Our Dear Friend...

That's celebrated on the Epiphany. It's its own holy day/holiday shortly after Christmas.

Oh sure. But I thought the whole gift-giving tradition on Christmas is supposed to represent the gifts from the wise men?

No no no.  Simply stolen from well-meaning pagans and atheists.

I think Christmas should be as deChristianized as possible, so HP.

A church I go to has been having Sunday evening Adventure activities that have included a craft activity.  The one last Sunday involved making a faux Xmas tree wall hanging with materials provided for your choice of a star or a cross atop the tree.  I went with the star, but I see nothing wrong with a singular cross atop the tree.  Multiple cross ornaments would definitely be overboard.

Right you are, Sol.  It's infuriating to have all this nonsense about this Jesus fellow getting in the way of my Christmas festivities.

Nah, Jesus is fine. Baby Jesus is of course adorable, and adult left-wing revolutionary Jesus is a badass. If the Christians would just let us enjoy those two versions of Jesus without trying to force this "Son of God, died for our sins blah blah blah" nonsense down our throats while we're trying to enjoy a nice egg nog or some chocolate eggs, then Jesus would be perfectly okay.

Good point.  Perhaps I'll play around with Che-mas this year.

Very good.  Christmas is first and foremost about Christ, and it should be kept that way.

Please keep your religion out of our secular winter time holiday, thank you.

As with all religious themed holidays, I disapprove of it strongly in public, but privately don't really care. I suppose the cross is kind of just a general Christian symbol, so whether or not it's the appropriate symbol strikes me as a little petty.

Is this thread not about Christmas?
You probably should not be taking part in this very festal occasion which was founded and celebrated for the remembrance of the coming of Christ.
You could go back home to Qom for Winter; the lack of crosses there may appeal to you better.

We can celebrate winter festivities in a secular manner, but not misinterpret Christmas .
