Anyways, word is that the top choice for the first ambassador to Cuba in over 50 years is a former Florida governor who discussed visiting Cuba during his campaign and was seen visiting the White House five days ago.

Crist?

Crist was at the White House on the 12th apparently

Eh... I think Carter would be a better pick.

Nah, he is too green for such a critical post.

Jimmy Carter.

Umm... I have a feeling he was being sarcastic.

Interesting how this was announced the day after Jeb Bush's announcement. Jeb Bush supported a terrorist who killed 73 Cuban civilians, Orlando Bosch.

Hot off the presses: Rand Paul becomes first GOP Senator/2016 Contender to side with President Obama and went on Facebook to attack Rubio's position.

Between knocking Rubio's "isolationism" and bashing Perry's hipster glasses, Rand is quickly becoming the sassiest of the GOP contenders.

American business already going back to the pre-revolution mentality, with Catepillar CEO declaring that Puerto Rico will become 51st state and Cuba the 52nd state: http://www.cnbc.com/id/102288738

Wow, that is a super-helpful quote from Caterpillar.

Am I the only one who thinks that it makes sense to give Cuba back to Spain?

Yes.

I'm glad that Paul is standing up to the Rubio's of the world. However, I wouldn't be so excessive if I were him. It's only a sign that 2016 seems closer than it actually is.

So without congressional approval, other than open an embassy and appoint an ambassador, what does Obama's declared change of olicy actually, y'know, do?

No lift on the travel ban. No lift on the trade ban. No allowance for personal imports beyond duty free for the tiny number of travelers permitted to go. Eve Crists's nomination will likely be held up in the Senate.

A nice change in direction, but it's sounding only about 10% substantive and 90% symbolic.

I think what you'll see, Badg, is the end of prosecutions for violations of the travel or trade ban, and perhaps a look the other way attitude with customs.  Few to no prosecutions makes the laws meaningless.  I support this though.
