All I'll say is that I hope this doesn't end up being the proverbial thrust that undoes the advances of the socialist revolution in Cuba in the realm of property relations. It would, however, be nice if this did lead to a general renewal of democratic procedure on the island (which has, unfortunately, lapsed to a great degree as bureaucratic rule set in in the 1970s) and truly independent trade unions (that aren't fronts for the CIA, that is) in Cuba. I don't know whether or not to view this as a step forward or a step toward the abolition of the deformed workers' state on the island. Only time will tell.

Good on him!

Didn't we open up some trade with Cuba back in 2010 or 2011? Like they needed telephone poles, auto parts, and electrical goods, and we allowed certain firms to conduct business? I don't know why he didn't just do it then.

Because he wanted to win Florida in 2012
