Hmmm, yes terrible.

I suppose Dark Horse was useful in the gym...

We still have time for something magical to happen and an option tolerable to vote for to appear. Uptown Funk would do the job nicely.

No, I'm sorry. Blank Space by Miss "I-hate-Spotify" is officially the last #1 hit of this year.

...there are still 10 days to go though, and there'll be number ones for those weeks, right?

No, not right.

10) Rude - terrible pseudo-reggae. Sounds like Barry Manilow doing a Jamaican accent. All bands with exclamation marks in their names should be treated with suspicion.

9) Dark Horse - really super generic. I actually had to look it up, because I completely forgot it apart from the weird Europop hook. Perry hasn't been good since she shot fireworks from her tits.

8 ) Monster - pretty subpar Eminem effort, quite frankly.

7) Timber - I'll admit this one is a guilty pleasure. This was the soundtrack to a rather fun night for me Cheesy , so I might be biased.

6) Fancy - Azalea occasionally dips into self-parody, but I find the song amusing.

5) All Of Me - decent and well-sung piano ballad, although not particularly memorable.

4) All About That Bass - dislike the skinny shaming, but I love the retro influences. (even though dragging up old R&B vibes is rather old hat.

3) Happy - Genuinely charming little number.

2) Blank Space - great year for Taylor. I like how it pokes fun of her media image.

1) Shake it Off - not the best thing Swift has ever written, despite being intensely catchy. Provoked hilarious backlash from prudes when she twerked in the video. For that reason alone, deserves number one.

I hope that doesn't apply to female rock singers. Tongue

I mean it's not like there are many other options. Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, and Iggy Azalea in particular should be loaded into a rocket ship and fired into the Sun. 1989 is high art and pure literature by comparison.

Am I the only one who's not familiar with any of these songs?

Oh yes P!nk is excused.

@locke - even "Happy"? That was pretty ubiquitous this year.

Anyway it's unfortunate that 'Shake It Off' and 'Blank Space' were the songs from 1989 that attained this position, because the best song on 1989 is, in fact, 'Wonderland'. Sadly, it's only on the deluxe edition for some reason. (I have to say, I'm not very fond of the trend of releasing albums in all sorts of different editions in general. If you've produced a song and think it's fit for public consumption, just put it on the album. If not, don't. Of course, Taylor Swift is hardly the guiltiest of this; just off the top of my head, Marina and the Diamonds is a lot worse about it.)

'Shake It Off' is a fun song, but it's far from the best Taylor Swift song, it's not the best song on 1989, and it's not even the best song on 1989 that hit #1 this year.
