It's improbable, down right impossible, but under what circumstances would what's now The Republic of Ireland have stayed with the United Kingdom?

Ironically, Ireland might still be united with Britain today had it not been for the United Kingdom.  At the very least, a different response to the rebellion of 1798 would have been required.  But even then, the most likely result would have been that Ireland would have obtained the same status as Canada, Newfoundland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa as dominions within the British Commonwealth.

Had King George III taken up Lord Lieutenant Cornwallis' suggestions (including Catholic emancipation), there's a good chance Ireland would still be within the UK.

Ireland would probably still be in the commonwealth if Ireland was united and Edward VIII never became King.

Edward VIII was irrelevant and you'd need a different response to 1798 for a united Ireland to have been a possibility in 1922.
