"Equal" is a quantitative term that isn't very useful in qualitatively describing human beings. There is no objective measure of human greatness so a person or group of persons cannot be "equal" anymore than they can be "greater than" or "less than" one another. It's silly to say that both genders are "equal" just as it's silly to say that one gender is "superior." They're just different.

Aren't you supposed to be a libertarian?

Depends what era feminism. If we're talking voting rights, or stopping sexual harassment, sure FP. If we're talking about the ideology that insists on the absolute right to infanticide, then horrible horrible HP.

Pretty much this.

A horrible philosophy built on a foundation of lies and hypocrisy. It is part of a demonic agenda to undermine and ultimately destroy the family and Western civilization as a whole.

Well, the avatar was my first clue. But then I started to doubt that once you said that people can't be equal because people are different, which sort of flies in the face of social libertarianism. Unless social libertarianism is no longer about freedom through equality.

I think he's more or less saying that people are all unique and therefore not equal in a measurable way on a social or scientific level. However, I think feminism addresses the equality of protection and treatment of said group (women) rather than equality of status.

Libertarianism is about letting people do more or less whatever they want as long as they don't aggress against the person or property of others. I'm not sure how that relates to what you're saying.

Maybe I just equated freedom to equality. Forgot that they're not mutually exclusive.

The basic founding idea of feminism, of treating men and women fairly and equally irrespective of sex, is awfully hard to argue with.

Massive Freedom Philosophy, as long as it doesn't go with abortion or bra-burning.

Not really the point of the thread but I've never really understood why 'bra-burning' gained currency as an archetype of 'unreasonable' feminism.

I'm a total feminist in that I don't believe in gender roles at all, and of course I'm favor of equal protection and treatment for any job or role in society. However, when people get nanny-ish about how women are portrayed, or how people think about women, I don't really see that as an attractive movement.

This also. A million times this.

This part seriously made me laugh.

But, yes, I have no problem with feminism, but I don't identify as a "male feminist" because the type of people who seem to call themselves that, not all of them obviously, are horribly misogynistic in ways they don't identify because they're so busy putting women on a pedestal.

I voted HP because the modern brand of feminism is particularly distasteful for me.

What does an old-school conservative have against free individuals disposing of their legitimately acquired properties the way they wish?

I call myself a feminist, rather than a "male feminist".

It's amusing how some people think the feminist movement is not attractive enough. Talk about irony.
