Senators,

I'm motioning that we cease Senate activity from 11:59pm on Tuesday 23 December 2014 and re-convene from 12:01am on Friday 2 January 2015 to enable a Christmas recess.

I have been analysing potential options to deal with the budget issue given that making it in time was always a complicated problem, and it surprises me to find that the Constitution says literally nothing about the budget. If the Senate decides to go into recess, a potential and temporary solution would be to mandate that the 2014 Budget is to apply for 2015 as well via Executive Order, at least until the 2015 budget can be passed.

Considering we went through a civil conflict with several changes in the government and with the DemPGH administration not sending the budget in October and my delay until December I think it would be an understandable choice, especially since it's not unconstitutional. If the Senate believes the idea has merits (and if I'm not overlooking the potential downsides), I could issue the order, strike it down once we have a budget and then propose a constitutional amendment to deal with the whole budget issue.

This has never been done before (to my knowledge) and I so no reason that we should start doing so now. If you won't be here, post an LOA and be done with it.

Lol, I don't really see why this is a big deal.

I'll be posting a LOA, the recess proposal wasn't only for my benefit.

I am seconding Senator Polnut's motion. A Christmas break surely is not the worst thing to do, given that many of us will surely only have limited time for Atlas(ia) during this time.

We did it in 2009. But that was because we didn't have anything major and this time we have the budget. Also my activity is going to be hell the first week of January most likely.

If people want to continue I'm happy to do so, and if they don't I'm happy to do that as well.

Guys, we might have a government shutdown soon. Maybe shutting down every activity except the budget?

I was about to post about the 2009 recess. Wink It's good to be reminded of my early days here.
