Inevitable question, since Jeb is making Presidential soundings.

Best running mate for Jeb?

Kasich, I don't think he'd pass up the chance to try and lock down both Florida and Ohio in the general.

Someone who he thinks would bring out the "conservative base", kind of like a reverse Reagan/Bush

Joni Ernst, although she should be carefully vetted and quizzed. He's been out of office for a while, so he benefits from someone with recent experience. She's younger, served in the military and comes from a swing state from a different part of the country than the one he's associated with.

Martinez could accenuate some of Bush's strengths, while being experienced to be able to run for President in her own right.

There might also end up being a unity ticket with Rand Paul.

Thune or Jindal.  They're more conservative than Bush

I really don't think a senator works well with Bush. I think Jeb Bush's chance is the "competent governor" approach and he would work best on a ticket with another governor.

So, probably Walker or Christie?

I agree that Bush should go with a Governor. Christie is not VP material because his personality would dominate the ticket. Walker would be a good choice for Bush. Martinez, too. Maybe even Haley.

Probably John Kasich. Reinforces the idea of competent, conservative executive leaders. Gives the GOP a significant advantage in perhaps the biggest two states of the election.

On the other hand, if he comes out of the primary deeply damaged, it might be better to pick a senator with solid conservative credentials to rally the base - the first that came to mind is Tim Scott.

There are better choices than Tim Scott.

Pence would be a more conservative Republican, but Indiana should be safe R:  maybe he would help carry Ohio.

If it is against Hilary, a female might seem smart.  I think Ayotte would be a better campaigner than Martinez or Haley.

Brain Sandoval would bring home Nevada

You can rule out governors or senators in their first terms.  Palin proved that this is a bad place to test run just 1.5 years into "national" office-holding.

I think that a Bush/Bush ticket would go down in a massive landslide. I mean the idea Jeb already seems extremely dynastic.

I'm going to go with Ayotte.

Condi Rice?

Black and a woman, intelligent beyond any doubt, solid experience in government, an authority in geopolitics, which Jeb is lacking in.

Or would picking her be risking too much of the base?

Or after grumbling, complaining, and threatening to stay home, would the base return to the fold anyway?

Yeah, Condi Rice isn't going to do much of anything in 2016 or 2020... or 2024... or 2028...

Someone who'll solidify the Tea Party Base but not go off script or make a fool of themselves. Scott Walker or Bobby Jindal come to mind.
