It just struck me how in most science fiction that deals with interstellar humans colonizing other worlds, there generally will be one or more GMO Terran plants and animals adapted to the colony, local plants that humans make use of, but almost never will ones found on older colony worlds and made use of there be brought to the new colony.

That sounds like a level of detail that most sci-fi writers don't want to get to, and that there's not much reason to either.

That sounds like a level of detail that most sci-fi writers don't want to get to, and that there's not much reason to either.

For a short story, obviously not, but for those that write a series of related novels such as Anne McCaffrey's Pern series or David Weber's Safehold series

Made me think of this.

Perhaps this doesn't occur (at least within the confines of lore) because of what occurred on the planet in the article above; it's much less of a "disaster" to inadvertently destroy a planet that once wasn't yours than for it to happen to your native one.
