Does anyone expect Gentile to get within 15 points? within 10?

It's unclear what the floor is in NY-11 for a Democratic candidate. Especially during a special election that isn't hotly contested.

I guess Gentile gets over 40%, after that who knows.

15 - may be, but not especially likely. 10 - no.

Not anymore. 14% of the vote is now in, Donovan leading 60-39. However, the difference is less than 500 votes. Looks like turnout was pretty low.

With about half of the precincts reporting, Donovan is leading Gentile 58-40.  More of Staten Island is out than Brooklyn, too.  Stick a fork in Gentile.

Looks like this wont even be close. And wow, turnout failure. Is there seriously only 13K votes with half of the district in?

NY has unbelievably low turnouts except for POTUS general elections. NY is a very cynical place. But then that is because its politics is cynical, but in a weird way, it sort of works. Ideology so often just gets in the way, or getting matters done in a practical way.

The Republican is an Orthodox Jew, while the others are not.  Things could get interesting quick if there was block voting and the Orthodox precincts are still out.  Probably won't happen, though.

Congrats, Congressman-elect Dan Donovan. How long do you see him in Congress?

As long as he wants to be. His handling of the Eric Garner case won't help him in a statewide run (and it'd take a perfect storm to give him even a chance at the state's AG again), but he's admittedly a good fit for Staten Island. Bar any corruption scandals (besides letting a murderer walk free for political gain), he'll be fine.

That turnout is pathetic. Special elections really need to be banned.
