I don't see any need to repeal the amendment in question. The economy of the Mideast has often done better than Atlasia as a whole even during hard times, and we've consistently had a sizable budget surplus along the way. As JCL noted in the other thread, the region lives below its means and hasn't had to mercilessly gut social services and whatnot out of necessity. I'll be voting against this.

As I previously outlined, it is perfectly fine to have balanced budgets without having strings attached. When a time where a deficit may be necessary comes and the will isn't there for a budget with a two-thirds majority, the amendment would have to go anyways, lest the Mideast government have to deal with a manufactured budget crisis. This amendment is about making the region more prepared by repealing the requirement to have balanced budgets in advance.

Given its simplicity, there is little to be amended in regards to my bill without neutering it. I am asking for the speaker to call for a vote soon, if there are no further concerns.

somehow I missed this thread earlier.  I appreciate New Canadaland's concerns, but there's no need to throw out the entire section on the budget from the Constitution.
