Go! I've included everyone who was impeached, the two presidents directly selected by Congress (Jefferson and Quincy Adams), the three presidents who won only due to quirks in the electoral college and lost the NPV (Hayes, Harrison, W. Bush), the current president, and some other choice characters. If your choice is not on this list, please share it in the replies.

My choice is Hoover.

No mention to Franklin Pierce? Junk Poll XD

But really, screwing up so bad you lose re-nomination, hated everywhere, and cede to the whims of one Congressman (Douglas).

Stephen Douglas was never our president. Buchanan was the president before Lincoln, Douglas was just one of the 2 democrat nominees in 1860.

Correct. 1856 was the only time someone elected President was ever denied renomination. Their party still won it. Of course conventional wisdom is that the party would have to lose if that happened.

@Wulfric: Never said that, I said ceded to the whims of a Congressman. Much the same way Dubya did to Cheney (sans pardoning Scooter Libby, which didn't happen)

And yeah Pierce pretty much let Douglas bully him around on things.

If it wasn't for Andrew Johnson, we possibly wouldn't be talking about Ferguson etc. today. Johnson was one of the only Presidents to have an actually destructive legacy.

Nixon. It's not at all likely that a President more competent than Buchanan could have prevented the civil war, which seems to be the main charge against him.

Isn't the charge him not even trying?

The omission of Tyler, Harding, Pierce and Fillmore seem particularly awkward. Maybe even Madison.

Out of those choices, Buchanan, but really, Pierce.

Honestly, Jackson, Van Buren, Pierce, Johnson, and Nixon are all about tied. Though I guess those responsible for genocide (Jackson, Van Buren, and Nixon) are the worst.
