So I'm currently finishing up with a fantastic book called From the Holy Mountain (recommended on this forum) and with a book called Cities of Destiny, an old, massive thing that focuses on various cities throughout history (currently on Muslim Cordoba).  Anyway, CountyTy90 provided a PDF that goes into detail regarding the Mountain Rule, an interesting policy in Vermont that existed for many years.  This piqued my interest in early US politics, so I came here.

I'm looking for quality books that focus on, say, the first 50 years of our nation politically.  Be it on a particular state or nationally, I'm not too picky.  Many thanks to everyone.

Here are some to try:

Founding Brothers by Joseph Ellis

Miracle at Philadelphia by Catherine Drinker Bowen (about the Constitutional Convention)

Inventing America by Garry Willis (more about the Dec of Independence but goes into the Hamilton vs. Jefferson battle)

A Magnificent Catastrophe by Edward J. Larson (about the election of 1800)

The First Presidential Contest: 1796 and the Founding of American Democracy by Jeffrey L. Pasley

The Presidency of George Washington by Forrest MacDonald

Rooney, wanted to say thanks for pointing me to these.  Reading A Magnificent Catastrophe right now.
