I am thoroughly disappointed Sad At the time I left school the Weather network expected a good amount of snow by now but it's melted Sad November was colder than this! It's raining as I speak. I'd like to know how much snow do Forum goers have overall.

Green. Cry

We've had hardly any snow yet this winter, except a few very light dustings.  We were supposed to get several inches last night, and my aunt even said that it was completely white when she went to bed last night.  But when I woke up this morning, almost all the snow was gone.  We did get some rain yesterday, though.

Not a bit of it just now, and I'm very pleased about it.  All the toys I bought require rain-free, snow-free outside environments, and that's what we're having this year.  Last year started out to be a nasty winter, and I went in for snowboards, toboggans, a little igloo maker, and the like, and it turned out to be wise choices.  Gotta roll with it, man.  We may be able to influence the climate, but that's a longer-term thing.  It's not like you can exhale and make it a rainforest, or inhale and make it a tundra.

Anyway, it's snow-free at the moment and I'm hoping that it stays that way for at least a few more days.

Merry Christmas!

Drab brown would be more accurate. It did rain though.

we had hard rain for two days but it ended yesterday.  Today was rain free.  Tomorrow the ground should be dry enough to actually go out and have fun on it.  Get out there and enjoy your youth, man.

Green Christmas, thankfully.

I love cold/cool weather, but I dislike snow a lot.

Green, and only then thanks to nonstop rain for the past two weeks.

Granted this is coastal California, land of the perms-60's weather we're talking about here.

I'm not sure if we had a "green Christmas" or not. We had a bit of snow, except it has been warm-ish and raining today and yesterday. Some lawns have no snow, but some lawns are still nearly completely covered.

I'm in New Zealand right now and I'm pretty sure they had this place in mind when they came up with the colour 'green'

Green in Mississauga. Pretty disappointing. I really didn't get into the spirit of Christmas at all this year. Probably my worst Christmas in a while.

Depends, but in the traditional sense: Green.

I live in the Alps at around 1/2 a mile height (I use this for you Americans, so you don't freak out if I use meters or kilometers).

The city is surrounded by mountains and a major glacier, which is also a major ski area. The mountains are between 1 and 2 miles high.

Down in the city, there's no snow right now (well, it did snow slightly overnight - but only 1/2 an inch. This will be quickly gone again by the afternoon).

Usually at this time of the year, we already have 1-2 feet of snow on the ground - even down in the valley.

On the mountains, it varies: Snow cover is really low this winter season, ranging from ca. 10 inches @ 1 mile elevation to ca. 4 feet on 2 miles elevation up on the glacier.

Since most ski resorts are on a height between 1 to 1.5 miles, the snow cover is often not near enough this season to open all slopes.

Some ski resorts only have 10% of their slopes open, because it was not cold enough for the water cannons to produce artificial snow.

I finally hope that we'll get 1-2 feet of snow down here in January/February.

Why is this high amount of snow, even down in the valley, important you may ask ?

Because some ski resorts also have toboggan/sled runs that start at ca. 1.5 miles elevation up on the mountain and run down to the valley.

Actually, the longest toboggan/sled run in the world is near where I live and I often go there and it's 10 miles long and flood-lit, so you can also take a run down from the mountain at 9pm.

Without snow, this is impossible and hurts the tourism economy.

As I've said before, climate change is hitting the Alps already:

The year 2014 will be the hottest on record in Austria (and in the Alps and the World). Since records began in 1740 or so, it was never this hot. 2014 will be hotter here by 0.6°C than the previous hottest year.

The fall of 2014 was 4°C hotter than the long-time mean of the last 50 years.

Snow cover and snowfall is definitely going back and it's generally much warmer and wetter right now than lets say in the 1960s.

My mum told me when she was a kid in the early 1960s there have been several years with a 2-4 feet snow cover on the ground when they went to school.

These days, we can be lucky if there's 1 feet ...

It's snowing pretty heavily right now Purple heart Purple heart
So if it continues to snow until, idk, afternoon maybe, we could actually have some real snow for the first time this winter! *_*
There was no snow on the 24th and 25th though, so green christmas overall.

It has started here too in the last hour and we have ca. 2-3 inches now (5-8 cm).

But Cranberry lives further west, so if he says "heavy snowfall right now", we might get some heavy snowfall too in the next hours ... Smiley

In the morning, it only had 1cm or so.

Very happy to say it was a green Christmas! White-ish Thanksgiving, though.

These days it's hard for me to view snow as anything other than a substance that's just an obstacle to be moved, treaded upon carefully, etc.

A "white Christmas" would be nice, provided that it all melts by the end of the day.

It dumped ca. 1 feet of snow down here in the past 2 days (finally !!!).

Now, the cold has come (-11°C today, which is 11°F). Some places have -20°C (-4°F).

Now it's winterwonderland:

yeah, Tender are you OK? An acquaintance living in the French Alps was trapped by the snowfall...

anyway my rented home in Sheffield is snowed under, not that it helps seeing as I am visiting my relatives in the south.

Yeah, I'm posting LOL.

Wink

I also heard that with the French Alps and the 15.000 cars that were trapped. Problem is that sometimes there are some tourist tools who still think they can drive around with summer tires and then they get stuck in the snow and everyone else pays because of these fools.
