One of these is a truly positive force, the other is one of the most destructive forces in the world today.

Well, I mean, hipster Christianity, obviously, but just as with your polls pitting opebo against Tamerlane or the Magdalene laundries or Dr No or whatever, that shouldn't be taken as a ringing endorsement.

Both are shallow and self serving. How can you possibly choose?

Reading what ODF writes about his religious clan, it's an easy choice for me.

I fail to see how sometimes of mostly white people that talks about checking white privilege could be considered "self serving".

Yes, I guess strip clubs do allow a "leading role" of sorts.

Maybe they could could check that privilege much better if it wasn't mostly white in the first place. The issue is both brands of Christianity seem to be concerned about what the person gets out of it. Hipsters want something that serves their own aesthetics and Bushie seems to want a faith that serves him by not challenging him in any way.

Given that both you and Bushie share similarities in that you both haven't demonstrated much personal growth in the many years you've both been on the forum, then it seems to me that both types of church are equally as vapid.

Well I haven't been to one in a year...

Well of course someone of your bent would find any sort of church vapid, just like all of my non-believer friends (though of course they'd probably vote for Hipster Christianity due to being more liberal). But it seems weird you speak of wanting something that serves your own aesthetics as so negative. That's what basically every person alive does.

And in regards to checking that privilege if it wasn't mostly white in the first place, the shows I go to full of Tumblr buzzwords about various privileges including white privilege and where someone can actually say "White people really are s[inks]" to hordes of applause are even more white. So were the vast majority of the people at all the protest marches I saw recently in Minneapolis about police killings of blacks. Point?

I feel like the problems that afleitch, or most secular humanists really, would have with, say, DC Al Fine's church, or Phil's, or TJ's, or mine for that matter although probably less so, wouldn't boil down to or even really include 'it's vapid'.

Plural of anecdote, and all that. And it's really pretty crass of you to bring that up in this context.

I was under the impression you were similar to this type of Christian, or at least more "modern".

I also can't vote. They're different sides of the same coin. Or maybe different sides of a many-sided die.

So is "hipster Christian" some sort of charismatic thing, or a person who follows the latest trends and who happens also to be a Christian?

Not really no. I just kind of lost interest and found better uses of my money.
