Steve Scalise (R) from Louisiana's 1st district allegedly spoke at a 2002 worldwide white supremacist conference in Metairie, Louisiana. An aid claims they have no records of his agenda from 2002. Link.

WaPo has the full story. It was a Duke front group.

That's conterminous with his party. There is nothing to see here.

He should resign.  Seriously.  The fact that he supposedly "didn't know" isn't a legitimate excuse IMO.

This could spell the end of Scalise' career, maybe, maybe not. It depends on how much controversy it generates, and what the Speaker decides.

Robert C. Byrd was your party's majority leader. When did he turn in his resignation?

Costa co-opted by WashPo.

It was twelve years ago. As long as there isn't a more recent example, forgive and forget.

Being a white supremacist and speaking at a neo-Nazi white power conference were extreme and controversial in 2002, dude.  What has his record been like since?

Notably that story ends on an error:

Sorry, it doesn't work like that. It's not like he wasn't in any office when he did it, he was actually holding office and gave a speech to a known racist group.

I'm amazed you're out of the hospital this early after November. I guess those 5150s aren't very effective.

Depends if any video surfaces in my opinion.

It's not my fault one of your leaders made a bad choice. You all need to pray that there isn't a video or transcripts. I'm just commenting on the subject.

He'd be the junior Senator from Vermont.

So, apparently Scalise is of the same mind of Duke, but more electable. At least according to his own words.

Whether this affects his ability to hold his seat should be between him and his constituents (it's Louisiana, so I'm not holding my breath), but Boehner needs to call on him to step down from the leadership now.

Guilt by association sucks. It's also very selective.  Knowing the spineless nature of Republicans,Scalise will get the Lott treatment.

Meanwhile, Democrats will schedule speeches at La Raza, kiss Sharpton's ring, and elect Presidents who attended Jeremiah Wright's church -- without media attention.
