I almost certainly would have supported them had I lived then.  Being a "dissenter" I'd obviously vote for the people who would stand for my rights.

Then you wouldn't vote for the Whigs who did fyck all in that department, even if they weren't generally in favour of actual persecution.

Actually, probably not.  I know that my ancestors lived all over Britain and Ireland before 1800, and that from 1800 to a few decades ago most of my ancestors were poor farmers.

tbh the Whig label was applied to such a disparate group over such a wide variation of political contexts it's hard to judge them as a single entity...
