I almost certainly would have supported them had I lived then.  Being a "dissenter" I'd obviously vote for the people who would stand for my rights.

Actually, probably not.  I know that my ancestors lived all over Britain and Ireland before 1800, and that from 1800 to a few decades ago most of my ancestors were poor farmers.

Err, pretty lousy but better than the Tories (not a Jacobite)

tbh the Whig label was applied to such a disparate group over such a wide variation of political contexts it's hard to judge them as a single entity...
