"The people who arranged the trip in Mexico have been forced out of government. That’s how well we did.” — Donald Trump

Republicans, WHY DID YOU NOMINATE THIS GUY.
He wasn't my choice. I still don't know why we did.

He's your choice now, so you've lost that moral high ground.

If you support Trump, you're either a bigot or a loser.  Take your pick.

Let's not perpetuate this damaging falsehood that awful views can be excused or explained away by stupidity, or that intelligence somehow implies moral virtue.

Active dislike for children is one of those animuses that should be critically examined a lot more than it is.

Regardless, Kirk's brash idiocy, braggadocio, and suave with the ladies is that same spirit that sent mankind and his absurd ego propelling into space. Without the world's Kirks, there would be no Jean Lucs.

Nathan is on a roll in the "Do you want kids" thread.

I don't at all think that 'shaming' people for not wanting children or for not going out of their way to spend time with children is a good thing or something society should be doing, although I have no clear understanding of where this 'shaming' currently is coming from (other than the baleful, all-blameworthy Dear Old Mom And Dad) since in my area the hip-'n'-trendy thing is to be 'childfree'.

'Shaming' people for supercilious dislike of children that they refuse to see anything wrong with, which I've--again, in my area--seen reach such baffling extremes as hip, sexy, with-it Millennials (and sometimes older people too) getting affronted at the idea that they have to share public spaces with children and young families, is, however, another story.

I default to suspicion of fashionable, 'forward-thinking', 'cutting-edge' cultural trends in general, in which I'd include the idea that interacting with children is and should be an optional part of life. Some aspects of my academic work seek to re-litigate the thirteenth century; many aspects seek to re-litigate the nineteenth; my artistic and literary tastes are increasingly 'party like it's 1945'. Philip Larkin's body of work is not something that I'm seeking to re-litigate or think anybody else should.

I can think of two reasons why it doesn't belong here, though.  Smiley

Oh, I thought you meant the Administration of former Gov. Dewey Bartlett (R-OK).

I could care less what Hollywood stars think.  The Hollywood Republicans just want to hoard their money.  The Hollywood Democrats just want to twist the arm of America until Middle America is forced to affirm their libertine lifestyles and condemn anything close to Biblical morality.  Hollywood is an all-out sewer, and I could care less about what anyone in the entertainment industry thinks.

You do realize that this post comes off as not normal? Sounds like Christian Sharia.

Disobeying a police officer can be a misdemeanor or a felony, but it cannot be a capital crime where the officer is the judge, jury and executioner.

The key is to listen to that maddened, howling part of you that claims to know with utter certainty that you will die alone, and be willing to compromise everything, including your dignity, to avoid that scenario.

This may be the dumbest bill of all time.  I wish Obama had a Tinder-esque super-veto that he could use once a year to stop particularly stupid bills without any override.

We have international courts for international legal action... domestic courts have absolutely no sovereignty over foreign nations or foreign nationals, so any ruling would be useless except for propaganda and stirring-up-sh**t purposes... but as others have pointed out, we're also basically rubber-stamping any other country that decides to take this same route to create propaganda and stir up sh**t against us.

Jill is too anti-American. The Green Party have now nominated anti-American, Russia loving, terrorist apologists in McKinney and Stein.

Good governor of Michigan. Attack me all you want, but it is corrupt Democratic machines incompetently running the inner cities that cause those problems like we see in Flint and Detroit. I'm just telling it like it is. The local Flint officials are the HP's that caused the awful water crisis, IMO.

Take a club to the machines and rip up all trade deals.

Basically this (although maybe not rip up all the trade deals).

This is non-negotiable. We must achieve autarky.

I suspect you're right on this. If other countries have replaced their workers with machines and we've chosen the path of frame-smashing, I'm not sure how we could compete with them in terms of trade. At that point, automation will have proven cheaper than traditional labor.

Automation is the final stage of the ritual sacrifice of human dignity that has been taking place in the west for fifty years. UBI would keep the victims alive but they would be reduced to an impoverished and alienated consumer class. Anything that can be done to stop it must be done. Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell.

Whenever I hear this line I always think enviously about how cute and clever it must sound to people who've never gone to bed hungry.

I don't know much about Schwarz.  But Sherwood Boehlert and Claudine Schneider were definitely NOT conservative Republicans.  Boehlert was very much a moderate, middle-of-the-road Republican, and Schneider was one of the last members of Congress that could be described as a liberal Republican.

In Mr. Trump's own words, "It's the Republican Party. It's not called the Conservative Party."
