Context: Bill O'Reilly and what a conservative wrote in response to his idiot remarks about SF and terrorists back in '05.

Low.
The letter said that O'Reilly isn't a conservative so much as he is in the conservative business, trying to market himself to people he thinks are not very intelligent.

Has this sort of thing ever been funny?

The only one who ever successfully pulled this sort of thing off was Vander Blubb, and even then his parodies were quite different in that he parodied individual posters, not some vague archetype. That is never funny. Never do it.

Socialism is value-neutral and, in some cases, can even be used to advance conservative causes whereas the kind of politics espoused by SJWs seeks explicitly to erode tradition and undermine authority.

Authority has nothing to do with conservatism (indeed, it is usually an enemy of it) and tradition is good for conservatives only in the sense that it usually supports their endeavors; in cases where it does not (such as countries that have long-established strong welfare states, for instance) it is "value-neutral", as you say, or can sometimes even work against real conservatism.

Respect for lawful authority and deference to tradition are inseparable from even the loosest conception of conservatism; that they do not factor into your ideology of Manchester liberalism is neither here nor there.

If anything, it is Vosem's amazing response that belongs in here.

cc: Burn Center.

Macron was and is a candidate of the Centre and has never pretended to be anything else. It is as Alain once said; when someone says that the difference between Right and Left is not so very important your first thought should be that that person is not on the Left.

I suppose that if the "left" in France splits into a quasi-PCF Melanchon-led Front de gauche as well as a more Third Way style social democratic En Marche party led by Macron...

What, is Macron advocating using market policies to achieve socialist goals now? No, I didn't think he was either...

If she is vulgar and hyperpartisan, so what?  She still isn't the left's equivalent of Fox News or Rush Limbaugh.  It's not that level of vitriol.  Not that the left shouldn't have that equivalent.

Especially now that the Republicans have a man in the White House who is overtly vulgar and vitriolic--and is determined to squash anyone who gets under his skin--the left needs people who are not afraid to mock and ridicule the lunatic and his enablers who causing the country and the world so much destruction.

I still haven't heard liberal comedians like Bee mock the small children of politicians who don't ask for attention.  Fox News and freerepublic, on the other hand, can go after the Obama kids, and Rush Limbaugh infamously called Chelsea Clinton "the White House dog".  Yet, in this thread, we have Democrats and left-leaning independents eager to criticize the "smugness" or whatever of left-of-center comedians.  Republicans, however, are not so inclined to call out the crudeness of people like Limbaugh.  Enough double standards.

"Both sides do it!"

You literally censor trumps name like a swear word, derogatorily talk about "yuppies" in a way that's isn't much different from the attitudes you criticize towards the working class, have claimed that libertarians all want the poor to die and suffer, implied Clinton didn't have a right to do anything but sit down and retire, etc. You have no right to whine about people not being nice.

^ Uh, didn't a liberal comedian literally just get fired for tweeting something completely classless about the President's young kid?

Rush Limbaugh didn't get fired when he did it. Who was that anyway?

Truer words have seldom been spoken.

I'll give you one last tip spark. Stop being yourself. Being yourself is not a good thing in life, always try to be a better version of yourself, this includes taking into account societal norms. Taking into account norms means you consider how your actions make others feel. It's not conformity, it's being a polite person.

Being yourself is just selfish and lazy, it's actually something I try and tell anyone younger than me to stop doing.

Ironically at the moment, VT has a Republican governor and WV has a Democratic one.

Not ironic at all.

The reason why Reagan is so exalted by Republicans is because he's literally the only Republican president since Eisenhower who wasn't a complete failure/disgrace/lost reelection.  They don't have any other options.

The only people bashing Bernie today are diehard Hillary loyalists who want to blame literally everyone and everything for her loss to Trump except Hillary Clinton.  They're a very small minority, because Bernie is the most popular politician in the country right now and the DNC even realizes that.

Let's stop relitigating the damn primary.

Good people don't join the U.S. Border Guard.

Good people don't decide to become police officers.
