I tend to think that if you're a member of a party that only has like 10% of the legislature in a two-party system, you probably need to just bite the bullet and say if you can't beat them, join them.

Yeah. The real question is if he'll also modify his political views to be more of a Democrat, like Tulsi Gabbard did, or not, like her father Mike Gabbard. (Either version is acceptable to stay in office, but to be elected to higher office the former is necessary).

He's already more liberal than some of the Democrats in the House, so I think he'll fit in just fine.

What about the Republican in the Senate? Would he switch?

The Hawaii Republican Party should just dissolve at this point. Many conservatives are already with the Democrats.

Extremely doubtful. He's pretty conservative and genuinely hates the Democrats. Nice guy though personally.
