Really? That's considered "copyright infringement" even though I have it

2. With the source
and 3. Ernest edited just to make it shorter, because that makes such a big difference, I mean I guess the NY Daily News employees are monitoring election forums just to sue Leip, and I guess because the quote is shorter it makes it all better.

Actually it does make a difference how long the quote is.  Unless you're making commentary on the material in the article in your post, fair use only justifies a short quote to give the minimal information needed for a reader to see if they want to go read the whole article.  Posting an abridged version is still copyright infringement.
