Hillary Clinton.

She's by no means a certainty, but her odds right now are far better than any other likely candidate.

Don't know of a specific person, but I'm fairly certain it will be a Democrat.

I would absolutely love it if Kasich was elected in 2016 though.

Hillary Clinton.

The GOP is in the same situation the Dems were in in 1988. You dont preside of the domestic and foreign policy failures of 1980 and 2008 and win again anytime soon. The Dems will win until they are in office when there are foreign and/or domestic failures, then the GOP will win again. But not until.

By Jan 2017, it is likely that the economy will be similar to Jan 1989. Full employment and either a balanced budget or a small deficit (less than 3% of GDP).

By Jan 2017, the current economic expansion will be 7.5 years old, tying with 1961-69 and 1982-90 for the second longest expansion. By Nov 2020, the current expansion will be 11.5 years old. Longer than any expansion in US history. So it is a virtual certainty that Pres Hillary, handed a full employment economy and balanced budget will preside over a deep recession and $2 trillion deficit by Nov 2020. This and the handling of the recession will likely tear the Dem party apart. A primary challenge and/or third party on the left in 2020 will guarantee the GOP sweep in 2020.

Hill-dizzy has the plurality of the odds at this point. So I'm going with that.

A more difficult question would be predict the next President: Hillary or Not-Hillary

Hillary Clinton -though this isn't to say I want her to win in a cakewalk or to be effectively anointed President.  I hope Republicans nominate someone at least vaguely competitive who can make her feel she actually earned the presidency.  It will make her victory that much more satisfying.

Given all of the polls so far, the potential Republican candidates, and lack of truly meaningful opposition in the Democratic primaries, my guess is Hillary Clinton.

After an underwhelming campaign performance and a major debate embarassment Hillary Clinton wins 50.6% to 48.5%. She wins by less than BO. Loses CO by 1 point and FL by 1.5 points. Carries VA by 1.5 points and OH by 2 points. Wins IA by 2, NH and WI by 3, PA by 4 and MI by 5.

With unemployment at 4.6% and a balanced budget thanks to the GOP congress, Hillary wins.

Hllary Clinton-One term

Deep recession in 2018-19
GOP retakes Senate in 2018
Dem party fractures over recession and response leading to strong GOP win in 2020. GOP wins all swings states plus MI, PA, NH, WI, IA. Loses MN by 1 and OR by 2. NJ surprinsgly close at 4.
