yeah, fortunately, I'd agree in this case, but then again I wouldn't vote in this case if it weren't compulsary.  Obviously because of history I wouldn't vote for Nazis, but I totally hate Communists.  I guess socailist would be the least evil in this case.

Probably socialists, but I might consider the Communists. They were a little less status quo, and perhaps a little more anti-Nazi.

Overlooked the words "with hindsight"...with hindsight it's a very easy choice to make.
without hindsight...with the sort of knowledge of events in Russia most people had back then...it's a question I've often tried to answer to myself. Really depends on my economic situation of course. But I tend to answer it with Communist. Possibly SAP, though.

Socialists of course.  It is an exact corrallary of the 2000 and 2004 political situation.  Well exept that the lesser of two evils in the US is also a right wing party, just a less extreme one.

SPD, I guess. Although I might have been a DDP supporter at the beginning of the Weimar Republic... but there´s not much point in voting for a party which barely receives not more than 1% of the vote anymore.

And I´m a bit amused by the recent trend to refer to the SPD as "socialists". Almost nobody would call them "socialists" here. The PDS calls itself "socialist" and is usually referred to in that way. I find it rather confusing... every time someone mentions the term "socialists" in respect to Germany I´m thinking of the PDS, but instead the SPD is meant.

The same thing happened with the British Labour Party.

Anyway, as Lewis mentioned, I'd like to know how this poll would have turned out if hindsight was not a factor.

I would have supported the Communists. Looking at the fact that the party had attempted a revolution in 1919, and until her execution, Rosa Luxemburg was one of the key figures in the party, they were definitely one of the most Marxist of the often-domesticated Communist parties of Western Europe.

I forgot to mention that I also voted Socialists, as they were not only the only pro-democracy party in this poll, but the only party at the time that could have contended with the NSDAP and KPD.

Without hindsight, 1930s Germany would look terrible to someone like me. You'd have a powerful USSR looming in the east and a powerful Communist Party marching through the streets.  What party is the only one opposing the Communists in the street and at the ballot box ? The Nazis.

Look at my post. With hindsight, the party I agreed with the most.  Without hindsight, the Nazis.  I was merely explaining my position.

NOTA.

If I were in 1930's Germany, I'd move to somewhere in the Americas, or at absolute minimum Switzerland.
