I have a boyfriend in spite of all my previous excuses for not having one, so I think you guys should end up fine.
Ah so you are another lucky one, how long have you two been together?

Just since September. I was mostly a closet case until then, too. So the last six months have definitely been transformative for me in a lot of ways. We met on Grindr and both of us are studying education at the same university, which has been awesome. I don't know how much time boyfriends are "supposed" to spend together, but we pretty much hang out every day, haha. We've had some rough times, but now we're at the stage where we're completely honest with each other, so we don't seem to have issues come up as often. I love him dearly.

But maybe talking about how happy I am in this particular thread isn't the most sensitive thing. Tongue

Ah you go to school together, just like the other guy in this thread who has boyfriends regularly, Lebron. It's such a major advantage to go to a university filled with similarly-aged people where you're bound to find genuine guys you can relate to and that you see regularly.

As opposed to the real world, where Grindr will introduce you to complete strangers who often turn out to be creeps and sometimes even rapists.

I see what you mean, but it can also be negative in that graduation is a thing. I'm not looking forward to the end of the school year... I mean, we'll keep it together for a bit, but if we end up in different cities, then it's pretty obvious what's going to happen. Sad

Oh yeah I always forget to consider that. Mainly because I regret staying closeted throughout college, I went to a small liberal arts college and there was only like one gay guy that I knew of there but he was attractive and I wish I could have gotten to know him and maybe have become bfs with him. But then eventually graduation day would have come and we would both be returning to our home towns, or to graduate school, or to some other place, unless we were so madly in love that one decided to follow the other or both run away to a brand new locale unsure of our futures and what to do post-college. Or try to make it work long-distance, with Facebook and Skype, etc., but I don't think a long distance relationship would feel like a real relationship to me, personally speaking.

But, just live for the moment and enjoy the romance you have with your bf, most of us don't have a bf in the first place. Tongue

I'm happily married and never talked politics with women. I think these two facts are related.

Let's go through this:
-"Women are at best a pleasant distraction, at worst a destructive one."
-Lack of "moves" or whatever
-I frequently work (sober) security at gatherings at my house
-Latent misogyny expressed in the form "The women at this school aren't worth it."
-Introversion
-Cigarettes, possibly
-There're tons of kids who are "happy" and who "pull" who are absolute idiots and degenerate pieces of filth; asexual master race for the win
-Some chick bailed on me this Sunday; suspicious(?)

Basically bumped this thread in order to laugh about the hilarious poll options some more times. Didn't want to people to say negative stuff about themselves.

I am single mainly because here, it is hard to find an intelligent, friendly and attractive Jewish girl who is also interested in politics and is not a leftist on Jewish issues/Israel. I have accepted that I will not find someone with whom I can stay up for the local Hungarian by-elections Grin However, I simply couldn't stand being in a relationship with someone who disagrees with me too much or who simply doesn't care about politics at all. This essentially boils down to one's vision on what Jewish identity means, which is extremely important to me.

I actually did find a girl who fits my description entirely, and I have gotten the strong impression that she is interested in me as well. However, what's next? In my previous relationship, that just happened naturally, but that doesn't seem to be the case this time. And since I'm being too lax, nothing is happening and I am still single.

There are a lot of "reasons", and I could probably write a huge collection of short posts on 'em if I wanted to to get 'em all in.

Instead I shall draw out of a hat every now and then a reason as it gets bumped, until I do end up in a relationship....or vanish from Atlas, whichever comes first

~draws out of a hat~

Well this'll be wordy, but all these quick drive by answers aren't all that fun.

WALL OF TEXT REASON #1: COMPATIBILITY ISSUES W/IN THE CHURCH

It is an almost hopeless pursuit to try one with a Mormon girl, because they tend to be (and so much of the Church anyway) right-leaning, idealistic, forthright, and very romantic as opposed to my leftwards leanings, cynical, sarcastic, and quasi-rational train of thought.

Now with all of the above factors, what really are the odds of being able to appear charming to her or me see her charm? What are the odds of anything I say providing positive or necessary intellectual and spiritual stimulation she wants/needs? And what could that woman do for me on that?  What are the odds I would be seen as a whiner or disrespector of the words the teachers and  various authorities said? And I'm sure I'd see her as to saccharine in dark situations and too eager to believe whatever Brother X or Y said. I think the dichotomy of sarcasm vs sincerity as the primary way of thought is self explanatory. What are the odds of both of us being able to maintain humor where necessary? And how far down will she look regarding my recording of missionary work [which is none]? Would I be up for marrying in the temple as quickly as she if things got that far? I know for sure that isn't even covering every corner of the problems, since I haven't even considered if she would be more or less political than me offline.

I have plenty of friends that were all those things, but mere friendship ain't something that could become eternal, ain't something from which the possibility of kids is considered, doesn't find someone who I could be able to do absolutely nothing together and be content (and vice versa).

Even supposing it does all work between us, extended family means a lot in the Church usually: So I'd have to hope she doesn't become a big fanatic regarding my atheist Dad, and she'd have to be okay with my sister and Ma at the minimum.

And on my end, what if she has like eight other siblings alongside parents that are also some form of right-wing, idealistic, and romantic?

To end it simply: The cultural divides make for a lot more obstacles than I am up to getting past at the moment. Just keeping many Church friends like that is enough.

I always hated the political compatability rationale tbh. I could never imagine dating a Republican. Every single couple in my family is a mixed couple. Seems far more sensible to have the opposite side but to each their own.

Almost all of these apply to me, especially the last one. I met a girl (on Tinder, sadly) who likes Bob Dylan and Ron Paul as much as I do and yet never seems to reply to my texts when the subject diverges to "hey, are our plans still on for today?" Ugh.

Other potential reasons why Atlasian's relationships end up sabotaged:

- can't remember birthdays or anniversaries, as it would be a distraction for vital info like who won Squidcake County in the midterms 70 years ago or details of an unemployed man from Oklahoma's workout routine.
- cites "fiscal conservatism" as reason to never pay for meals.
- wants to settle for someone with exactly the same PM score to avoid friction.
- unrequited love for Chester Alun Arthur

Haha! You got me! I'm somewhat socially conservative remember though (especially on spur of the moment issues), so those crazy Bernie nuts still may be the ones for me. (Rand might be too far)

I appreciate CrabCake's surprisingly right wing sentiments on this matter.

I enjoy the perks of being an attractive, young, single blonde woman.

I am 0/19 on getting a ticket when pulled over.
I haven't paid a bar tab since the Bush administration.
I have never had to call a cab or pay for a ride.
I have never had to lift heavy furniture or move out on my own.

There are probably more benefits that I don't even realize are benefits because I have never gone without them, why would I want to give it all up to watch television with some goober every night?

Oh dear. This will not be fun for you. May God have mercy upon your soul... because this is the Atlas Forum. I can empathize, because I am "a black"-- by convention, the only one here.

Welcome. And good luck.

to touch on an issue that reared its head in this thread: I do not believe Atlas 'suffers' from a lack of women because of the attitudes of its male posters towards women, but rather the attitudes being aired is a product of a lack of women, of a "gentlemen's club" environment.  the idea that women are scanning the Forum and deciding not to register because of the content of discussions is patently absurd.

Also see this thread.
