He was frequently insightful and funny. Most posters are neither (and to be completely honest this applies especially to his detractors). Several people are one or the other. I can't think of anybody current who is both.

Unfortunately his insight did not extend to comprehending that there were certain areas of vulgarity he needed to keep off this forum.  Every couple of months or so he would do something that had he been a new poster, would have gotten him an instaban.  Because of his status as an old timer who could make good contributions, he'd instead get a talking to.  After a bit of whining that he didn't see what the fuss was all about, he'd say that he'd do better only to end up in the same situation a couple months later.  Even before the events that finally led to his ban, there was a good half of the mod squad that were already in favor of his banning rather than have to deal with his repeated behavior on a regular basis any longer.  To be fair, I think he never did comprehend why he kept getting in trouble because he truly saw absolutely nothing wrong or even controversial about what he was doing.  But that lack of comprehension meant he would still be causing headaches were he still a poster, and it's why I don't ever expect to be in favor of lifting his ban.  I just can't see him ever changing what kept getting him in trouble here.

next week should be considered some sort of 'Week of Remembrance', as we have the 11-yr anniversary of his registration and 1-yr of his banning upcoming.

I used to not care, honestly, because he didn't bother me in the the least, but the vendetta against him won me over. FF.

Troubling that people criticising a predatory sex pest and (he winked and nudged around it, but come on) likely nonce led you to a position of support for said creep.

Well, gossip and hearsay aren't my territory - maybe you respond more to that stuff, but it's creepy to me that people would take such an interest in his life off the forum that they went looking for things to smear him with when it has nothing to do with here.

So what we're left with is he trolled or put something in his sig, and that's just hunting something.

I read a lot of his posts in the run up to the 2012 election when I hovered, and actually didn't join during that time because I thought that the rest of the forum was just like him (though he was just one factor).

I remember a number of his posts specifically in the 2012 board, because they were basically along the lines of "Obama is going to lose because white people are racist and will vote him out. White people suck, rich people suck, and America is evil". I wasn't sure if he was serious or joking ( I think it was the latter).

Other than that, I did think some of his dry humor was kind of funny at times, but otherwise he was very boring and annoying. The only interaction I had with him was when I used "opebo" as a verb when describing how affluent people treated me at my job versus the less fortunate, and he found it funny. Then he got banned.

I'd vote lean-HP for his crap views, but this obssession with him is bizarre. Just move on people.

Everyone knows what I think of him, so no need to rehash it.  And if permitted, I would much rather forget he even exists -except for some here who seem to spend their every waking hour thinking about him, and then pestering us about bringing him back.

Sometimes I wonder whether even opebo finds it creepy that BRTD is still so obsessed with him...

Awesome poster, despite his moral depravity on some issues.  People here get too nasty towards those they disagree with.  Phil is one of my better "Atlas Friends" and we agree on next to nothing.  I don't think the people who hate poor opie will ever understand the ironic nature of the stuff he wrote.

I didn't know you were an expert on the ages of Thai prostitutes. By his own description, most of the prostitutes he had sex with were in their twenties or thirties.

Anyway, none of that makes him a child molester. That's a pretty insane thing to accuse someone of with literally zero evidence.

"opebo was a pedophile" is pretty much this forum's equivalent to "Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11." That being said, he opposed age of consent laws. Whether that should fall under the range of acceptable decorum is debatable.

Tweed made a great point when he pointed out that any of the posts accusing opebo of being a pedophile would be deleted and heavily infracted if you replaced "opebo" in them with the name of any other member.

Also in regards to the advertisers not liking the links that were posted, let me pose the following scenario:

I demand that krazen be banned and state that if he isn't I'm going to post hardcore pornography on the forum. He isn't, so I start posting hardcore porn. The ad company finds out and sends a notice to Dave in regards to this, so to get me to stop krazen is banned.

Because the equivalent of that is basically what happened.
