I'm a slow learner, but after a few decades of following American politics, I finally realized that it is a joke.  The reason I had such a hard time figuring that out is because the joke isn't funny.

It would be cute if the Republicans so split that the Democrats stayed together and voted in Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House.

Impossible, unless a bunch of Republicans either vote Present or, for some reason, for Pelosi.

Something like that nearly happened in Georgia in December 2009 when the previous Speaker resigned after attempting to commit suicide; the Republican caucus was so badly divided there was some talk of electing the Democratic leader as Speaker in some kind of coalition - which would have been hilarious

RIP any chance he had, which is close to none anyway.

Obviously there's no chance Boehner is voted down because even if it went to a second ballot, no sane GOPer with ambitions would want the job.

Yeah, that's a really convoluted way of saying 29 Republicans would have to vote against him. What are the white seats even?

Oh I agree, I guess what I meant to say is that it shouldn't be a joke since the decisions made by elected officials affect our lives directly in more ways than we can imagine

Awww, but he had so many (meaningless Atlas) endorsements. What a shame real leftists didn't join the cause of destroying the Republican Party.

Why did Raul Labrador have such a change of heart from two years ago?

Why did Raul Labrador have such a change of heart from two years ago?

Labrador has ambitions now that his national profile has grown, and there is not much to be gained from a relatively pointless act that had no chance of working.

Labradors can be difficult to handle as puppies but grow up to quite loyal.

Turns out he only got 3 votes, himself included. 12 people voted Daniel Webster of Florida. Democrat Jim Cooper also voted for Colin Powell.
