I go to the local Navy Exchange and they have Valentine's Day merchandise already. They didn't even wait a week after New Year's Day.

The Navy metaphorically decided to give me the finger, Valentine's Day-style, a second time.

The holiday itself isn't too bad, but how people handle that day is what makes it bad.

Whatever happened to the good old days when retailers waited the month of a holiday before even preparing for the holiday? There was a time when you didn't see Christmas decorations at, say Macy's, until after the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

What? Seriously?

At least Easter doesn't remind you of negative emotions.

retail chains typically have a 'seasonal' area built into the floorplan.  it has to be full of something.

This is Bushie's world, we're just living in it. Better start focusing on July 4th to keep ahead of the curve.

I can't wait to see what the next holiday the Arizonan will complain about for not being like the Good Old Days any more.

Sorry, I only do the 25th of December and the 14th of February.

I'm actually much more likely to post another thread complaining about how computer game companies are becoming control freaks that don't like used game sales and want to make everything online-only.

Goodness gracious.  That's really terrible.  You saw a few pink teddy bears and heart shaped Whitman's Samplers in a store.

Is the Navy going to give you a medal for surviving that kind of harrowing experience?

Sometimes I wish that the Navy would give me a medal for that.

But seriously, Valentine's Day is a depressing holiday. I guess retailers don't have a concept of discretion. Would it kill them to just exercise at least a little of it?

Yes, actually it probably would Tongue.  Tweed makes a legit point about the necessity of "seasonal" sales to retail business models.

I was gonna say, this guy seems more focused on the holidays than Bushie.

It's not like there's a wide selection of seasonal merchandise for any occasion between now and Valentine's.  The only thing I can think of would be to have some gun dealer with absolutely no taste, morals, or common sense to offer boxes of .30-06 ammo for MLK Day.

What's wrong with a special ammo sale for Martin Luther King Day aside from the fact that it's insensitive and the reverend was killed by a gun?

I might consider having a combustible sale in the spirit of September 11th if I feel like being a douchebag.

Not merely any gun, but a .30-06 rifle.  I suppose an MLK Day sale should have those on offer in addition to the ammo.

Back on topic, why does such a depressing holiday have an unbearable "in-your-face factor" ?

Is that the rifle James Earl Ray used?

I guess I'll speak for everyone - leave and/or stop being such a depressing loser. For your own good.

I saw some out a few days after Christmas.  I've also seen Easter merchandise out after Christmas, too.  This is the new norm, folks.

Personally, I don't like Valentine's Day or any other commercial "holiday" that lacks any real significant meaning.

Next it'll be July 4th, and how his friend no longer has a "family maid" to fetch them drinks while they sit on the porch, and have a riveting conversation about the war on whites.

This is the new reality in the online shopping world, Holiday orders gets pushed ahead of schedule.

Especially, with the dismal Winter we had, Spring shopping is just around the corner.

Factory orders are a mnth ahead of schedule.

A Mexican restaurant I go to fairly regularly has already put up their Valentine's decorations.  Ugh.  It's not as if they needed to have any seasonal decorations up right now and it's really too soon to be doing more than preparing for Valentine's.
