I'm confused. It's about a federal or a provincial by-election?

If he thinks there was something illegal about that, maybe send them to the OPP?

He probably don't think it's illegal, but it can be damaging. It's not because it's legal than it's moral or looks good.

Wikipedia says the Richelieu by-election is January 25, but I can't seem to find any sources on this. Am I right to assume that it hasn't actually been called yet? Does anyone know?

No, the 25th is the Liberal investiture convention. PLQ does that wierdly, there is even lenghtly profiles of every candidate on PLQ website. The candidates are Sylvain Dupuis, mayor of Saint-Ours, Benoît Théroux, financial security and insurance adviser and Nancy Sheridan, business consultant.

10/238: 146 Thibault, 113 Shawbonquit. Really wish we had poll maps like the US, would make guesstimates easier.

Really? You could actually know what's going on in Sudbury with a map? I'm impressed.

Well, we would know if those areas voted Liberal or NDP last time.

Obviously racism exists...but there is less of it among people in the NDP universe than in the rest of the population...and need i remind you that the US is VASTLY more racist than Canada and they elected a black man as president. Oh an btw - how is it that Calgary of all places has a mayor who is a Muslim South Asian?

Relationships between White people and Native people in northern Quebec and Ontario are close of Deep South ones.

A by-election will be held in Jean-Talon, QC (it's in Quebec City) after Yves Bolduc, the Education minister resigned to return to medecine.

He was the last Health minister of Jean Charest, but he was replaced by the "Fat Doctor" when Couillard won. He was woefully incompentent as an Education minister and often ended in news for saying silly or dumb things.

He got a 215000$ bonus for taking 1500 patients as a family doctor while he was an opposition MNA, he dropped them a few months later to return to Cabinet and refused to refund the bonus.

He announced they considered raising university fees, before changing his mind on the same day.

About cuts in funding to schools, he suggested to schools to cut in school librairies, because "no kid will die because of it".

And, the last thing, which caused his downfall. A school decided to do a strip search of a teen female student because they were suspecting her of selling drugs, that made a scandal, but the minister said than "it is allowed, as long it's done very respectfully". Prime Minister overturned him and banned it a few days later.

Three possible by-elections in PEI as three MLAs resigned on the day the new Premier swore in.

Robert Ghiz, former Premier (Charlottetown-Brighton)
Wes Sheridan, former Finance Minister (Kensington-Malpeque)
Robert Vessey, backbencher, new Chief of Staff of Premier MacLauchlan, resigned to allow him to run (York-Oyster Bed)

Will they even bother, considering their next election is in the Fall? Or perhaps they will move the election to next year to avoid a conflict with the federal election.

Well, I don't think than the Premier can afford being out of the Assembly until fall.

Probably a by-election in Chauveau (northern Québec City suburbs), as former journalist Gérald Deltell (CAQ, last leader of ADQ) will announce tomorrow he will be running for Conservative investiture in Louis-Saint-Laurent (north-west of Quebec City + L'Ancienne-Lorette). It's an NDP riding, but the incumbent Alexandrine Latendresse retires after one term.

It's the former riding of minister (and now Senator) Josée Verner, so if the Conservatives do well in Québec City, they should regain it easily.

Would be great if the terrible "journalist" named Jocelyne Cazin lost.

Cazin blames "media being too hard on her" (especially on the fact she was from Montreal area), Deltell not involving in her campaign and electors not reading CAQ program as reasons for her defeat.

There's been some coverage of Liberal mailouts attacking Patrick Brown in the upcoming by-election. I assume the old tradition of giving the other leader a free pass in their by-election is dead?

Was it ever used in Ontario? Remember John Tory by-election.

Wasn't there a New Democrat named something like Joe Noseworthy who beat a leader in some Ontario byelection?

That was a federal by-election during WWII (and the leader was Arthur Meighen). Conservatives then draften Bracken and became PC and accepted welfare state (Bracken's conditions to accept the job).
