Impressive, how Warren's popularity continues growing. I imagine he'll go down in history as a very important figure with notable popularity for decades to come. Nevertheless, like a fellow moderate right-winger--RL Teddy Roosevelt--critical historians will pillory him, and likely justly so.
Indeed, Warren is likely to be regarded as one of the greatest presidents of the 20th Century, if not the greatest, by future generations. His defenders will lionize him as the man who restored public faith in the federal government and won World War II, while his critics will attribute his success to remarkably lucky timing, noting that in the aftermath of the disastrous Long years all Warren had to do was be competent and allow World War II to end the Depression for him in order to remain popular. Most historians, I imagine, will take a more balanced approach, acknowledging Warren's policy achievements while noting how much the circumstances were in his favor. It will be particularly interesting to see whether the left or the right claims Warren as a hero as he fades into the background of history. He's clearly to the left of the Taft wing of the American Party, but being the successor of Huey Long will likely make him seem more conservative in context.
