What if in 1968 in an attempt to keep the solid South Humphrey chooses George Wallace as his running mate. I see him keeping all his states he won plus the whole South minus maybe Virginia.

You're half way right. I would agree that this could appease southern votes and turn in some of those soutern states to Humphrey, giving him the Wallace states, SC, and maybe TN. However, I think that NC, FL, and VA are still gone, and I think that some of the Humphrey wins in real life might bolt to Nixon as a result of neglecting Civil Rights and he would lose even worse in the non southern states, giving Humphrey a overall worse performance

Also this should be in the past election what if board

Edit: I was an idiot and didn't specify which what if board, so I added past election

Black voters wouldn't vote for Humphrey and if Nixon plays his cards right, he could win the Black vote or make it close.

If you know any background on Hubert Humphrey and his role in the civil right movement, you'd realize this could never have happened.  Humphrey would prefer to lose to Nixon than campaign with Wallace.

On the other hand, Wallace being on the Dem ticket likely costs Humphrey big in Northern states

That's something I'd like to see.

Change the parts in bold, and this goes for most pre-1990 scenarios on this board.

The days where you could Flex Tape the New Deal Coalition together with a northern liberal/southern conservative unity ticket were gone after the Civil Rights Act. A Eugene McCarthy third party ticket plays spoiler to Humphrey/Wallace, who're doomed anyway.

Fmr. Vice President Richard Nixon (R-NY)* / Governor Spiro Agnew (R-MD)
Vice President Hubert Humphrey (D-MN) / Fmr. Governor George Wallace (D-AL)
Senator Eugene McCarthy (I-MN) / Senator George McGovern (I-SD)

*IIRC he lived in New York in 1968
