After season 1 of DB, the whole franchise lost any semblance of its inspiration from that classic tale. It is hard to knock a roaring success like this franchise, but it is easy to see that this wandered quite far and I cannot help but think that it in large measure derives from the creator's forgettful nature (the disappearence of Launch is acknowledged to be caused by this).
