In the aftermath of the 2012 election, I predicted that Romney would run again in 2016, and once again receive the nomination. I was promptly engulfed by a firing squad of mockers, ridiculing the idea that Romney would run, or that he could possibly win.

"A new poll shows former presidential candidate Mitt Romney leading the field of likely 2016 Republican candidates.
The McClatchy-Marist poll, released Monday, shows Romney has the support from about 19 percent of Republican voters, with Jeb Bush receiving 14 percent."

He might still win Mass in 2016, or on reelection in 2020. Reagan did, after all... and that was after Carter, who as bad as he was doesn't hold a candle to Obama.

They only need one good candidate. Multiple is actually undesirable, as it leads to resources being wasted in the primary.

Romney's got a strong chance of winning Massachusetts again in the 2016 primaries.

And in the general election- perhaps not in 2016, but upon reelection in 2020. Smiley

So Romney polling at 19% proves he'll win the nomination? Huh

I'll give credit where credit is due though, you certainly went out on a limb predicting he'd run again.

Don't give him credit yet - Romney hasn't actually announced a candidacy.

I have a theory that Rockingham actually is Mitt Romney posting from a sock puppet account and trying out his material as a "severe conservative." Somebody should try to track down his IP address.

If Romney is the nominee, he'll lose by more than he lost in 2012.

I cant think of a SINGLE person who voted for Obama who would vote for Romney in 2016.

Romney has no hope in Massachusetts. He even realized this in 2012 - he did not campaign at all in MA. Unless the democrats nominate Martha Coakley, MA is not voting for a republican president.

Obviously I can't do that, since I can't see into the future. (Surely you have some evidence that he won't, since you are so certain that he won't improve, so I'd love to see that.)

Hillary is a worse candidate than Obama. He was a fantastic campaigner, while Hillary isn't. That alone has the potential to win some votes over. Not to mention that he can position himself as someone who was correct on foreign policy issues such as Russia (where in 2012, he was ridiculed for it).

Look, I know you are a Hillary supporter, but do you honestly believe she is a better candidate or campaigner than Obama?

I'm not a Hillary supporter and I think Hillary is a better candidate than Obama. In terms of campaigning, she and he just had different styles, his more modern style appealing more toward youth and minorities and grassroots won out, but I'm sure she has learned from the 2008 campaign, Obama's staff will be on her team this time around, and she would run a 21st century campaign if she ran in 2016.

Obama is a better campaigner, but it's certainly arguable who is the better candidate. But I do love how the narrative has changed so drastically. In 2011/2012, the Republicans were crowing about how the "failure Obama" was doomed to be Carter 2.0 and how the mediocre economic recovery would sink him. Now we see Republicans talking about how Obama was such an amazing and formidable candidate, and of course he would've thrashed any Republican because the economy was improving. Roll Eyes
