Very stupid thing to say in the heat of the moment, since the profound message is that even if your family has lived here for three generations this is only conditionally your country. Same goes for calls to strip those who go of to fight in Syria of their citizenship.

It is only conditionally their country. That goes for ethnic Dutch people too. If you don't believe in enlightenment values, why do you even want to stay in an enlightened country? He shouldn't even need to tell people to f off, they should be going on their own.

Dunno about the Netherlands, but here in Denmark seeing some form of repatriation of the people most hostile to Western values as a logical part of a solution to the integration problems in Europe is actually more widespread among Muslims than ethnic Danes.

I don't believe in "love it or leave it" I don't think you should have to love your country. You should at the very least not want to murder everyone around you though. I don't think that's an unreasonable requirement for citizenship.

I don't think that really affects my point, after all being muslim presumably doesn't give you any special insight into the solutions to the problems society at-large is facing.

As long as you've got a political establishment clearly communicating that as far as it is concerned there are natural-born citizens in your society who has better watch their steps because their claims to citizenship are a bit shaky to begin with, that strikes me as really unhealthy for social cohesion in the long run.

If you hate "your" country and the values it is built upon then I think it's perfectly fine to make the case that maybe you ought to find someplace else to live.

The thing is that that's not how citizenship is supposed to work.

Anyway, I suppose you don't have to tweak this sort of reasoning terribly hard to make a case for either the Haredim or non-religious jews to start clearing out of Israel.

Assuming he's not a neoliberal hack on economic issues, this guy would make a great PvDA leader someday.

I don't see what this have to do with citizenship, people born in Netherlands don't necessary have Dutch citizenship.

Well if they began celebrating terrorism and people who want to murder their non-Jewish neighbours, I don't see why we should suggest to them, that they should move to a place which fit their world view better.
