Not even gonna try to pretend. He's just openly catering to the Southern primary states (the most foolish of strategies since it will alienate the rest of the nation if he somehow won enough to barely get into the GE).

I'll be in a jam if the Republicans end up nominating someone like Huckabee or Santorum.  I'm not going to vote for them, but I don't see any way in hell I end up voting for Clinton.  I don't really want to vote third party either.  Ugh.  I'm glad there's a small chance of him actually winning the nomination.

He's mostly wrong, but he has somewhat of a point. I don't think he's nuanced enough to have this discussion.

I doubt it'll hurt him much with the media, just because this is the type of opinion that will help with ratings.
