Haven't Tea Party types frequently decried Obama acting "fascist"? Is that truly what you want here Bandit?

Come to think of it, this proposal is pretty fascist-sounding, so watch out buddy.

It's funno how for many people "fascism" essentially mean "people I hate/disagree with". Many of such specimens probably doesn't really understand the original meaning.

More precisely, fascism is an attempt by reactionary interest to salvage their class privilege (including not only wealth but also bureaucratic power) with Bolshevik methods of terror, media control, and regimentation.
Right, which in why monarchists were often fascists and heavily supported Hitler.

Oh wait.

Hitler's government did receive the support of the German monarchist movement, yes.

Preceisly. A man who played a decisive role in securing the chancellorship for Hitler was von Papen.

... 'Generic conservatives' mostly supported Hitler, either willingly or under the mistaken belief they could appropriate him to their own ends.

If a district elects a fascist, then the fascist is going to Washington, DC.  Period.  As long as he or she hasn't done anything illegal, you have no right to deny those voters their choice - no matter how misguided you feel their choice was.

Then they should stop denying our right to elect progressives.

You have a right to try, but progressives losing elections in conservative areas =/= fascism, it is just simple math.

A proposal to bar fascists from holding office would in practice mean a bar on whoever the government doesn't like. Outlawing thoughtcrime can't turn out well, particularly without at least defining it.

Well, so maybe I'm wrong.

But people are at their breaking point. Something has to be done to combat the rise of fascism.

Do you have a workable definition of fascism?

Do you have a workable definition of fascism?

1. Absence of civil liberties

2. Government in the service of economic elites to the detriment of all others

3. Rejection of cosmopolitanism

4. Cult of tradition; rejection of modernity except in the tools of war and repression

5. Dictatorial government acting without responsibility to any but elites

6. Contempt for intellectual activity

7. Reduction of art and entertainment to propaganda

8. Mistreatment of pariahs (especially the poor and ethnic/racial/religious minorities)

9. Enhancement of economic inequality

10. No tolerance of political dissent or opposition

11. Modern technology

12. A claim to being pure democracy as opposed to 'bourgeois' liberalism

Quite the laundry list. It's also doubtful that even Mussolini's Italy would meet all twelve.

You have every right to try to elect a Maoist, if you so choose. Whether she gets elected, of course, would depend on you being able to persuade enough people to cooperate: that is, what is called democracy.

If anything, gerrymandering creates extreme districts, in which you get a better chance to elect radical candidates.

I believe we are starting to see a break though on the road to sanity.
