I'd like to see an amendment to the Constitution that says something like this:

"No person who is a fascist shall hold any office, civil or military, under the United States or any State or territory, or shall be an elector of President or Vice President."

After the Civil War, the United States restricted former Confederates from holding office. I think the same should be done of fascists.

This is a serious proposal, by the way.

Would be very hard to define and lead to abuse in practice + demands for a ban on Communists, Islamists etc. It opens Pandoas Box to go that road. Also fundamentally undemocratic.

Curious, would you define any significant current officeholder as a fascist? I can think of a couple that are semi-close (and by that I mean just a lot closer than everyone else - not all that close) in both parties but ultimately are nothing too dangerous. (I assume we are talking about the extreme nationalist segment of this too seeing as some would love the economic ideas.)

Quite a few. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that several local state representatives are fascist in every sense of the word. This is not an exaggeration.

And there are quite a few in Congress. I'd say Steve Scalise is one. He spoke to David Duke's organization, for crying out loud, and has even compared himself to David Duke.

I'd support an amendment banning Bandit from using the internet.

This amendment contradicts some very basic principles of the founding of this country, and the fact that it needs to be proposed as an amendment is quite telling. A normal statute would be struck down based on a few different sections of the Constitution.

I am also curious to know which local state representatives belong to Mussolini's cult of personality, seeing as how that is a historically very important sense of the word "fascist". Let's not mistake the word for what some people today think it means.

May I suggest that you change that from fascists to meanies, I mean it's just as useful, and it make the suggestion funny instead of embarrasing foolish.

Through I have to say you post still brought a smile to my face. So thank you.

A follower of Benito Mussolini in the 1920s and 1930s. They're almost all dead now, of old age.

We also need to make sure that loyalists to the crown are excluded while were at it.

The word fascist has absolutely no meaning after 1945. I've seen people call Ron Paul a fascist for s sake.

What about in reference to Salazar or Franco? Or in reference to XA?

Repugnant as fascism is, even if it claims to be 100% American (exotic manifestations of fascism, like neo-Nazism, are sick jokes to almost everyone), it is hard to define. As a rule, anything that resembles fascism tries to present itself as the definitive Americanism with anyone disagreeing being smeared as 'traitors'.

The only way in which such an amendment will ever appear is if

1. America goes fascist.
2. Fascist America provokes a horrible war
3. that it loses, and
4. the victors impose a ban on the fascist party as the US did to the NSDAP, the National Fascist party, and the Japanese Taisei Yokusankai...

I can imagine the Right using this sort of language

"No person who is a SOCIALIST shall hold any office, civil or military, under the United States or any State or territory, or shall be an elector of President or Vice President."

To outlaw opposition, anyone disagreeing with those in power could be cast out of positions of responsibility for opposition to crony capitalism, refusing to allow giant corporations to expropriate their property for a pittance, or teaching that pure plutocracy destroys much of what has been recently accepted in America. It could also disenfranchise people, entrenching the power of people drifting toward fascism.

These 3 things have already happened.

The modern "Fascist" is essentially defined as anyone you dislike politically, so yeah...I am sure this would work great.

Banning people from holding office on a purely subjective political ground is actually quite Fascist. I therefor conclude that Sanchez is right, and Bandit is in fact a terrible Fascist (if not a Fascist commie even).

More precisely, fascism is an attempt by reactionary interest to salvage their class privilege (including not only wealth but also bureaucratic power) with Bolshevik methods of terror, media control, and regimentation.

Right, which in why monarchists were often fascists and heavily supported Hitler.

Oh wait.

The monarchists were typically members of the Nationalist Party... fascism-lite.

The strongest supporters of Hitler were the big landowners, generally in the eastern parts of the Weimar Republic, and the large-scale industrialists. Blue-collar workers were the least-likely by class to support Hitler -- less likely than the educated elites whom one might have expected to know better.

Haven't Tea Party types frequently decried Obama acting "fascist"? Is that truly what you want here Bandit?

Come to think of it, this proposal is pretty fascist-sounding, so watch out buddy.
