This example is a bit of a stretch, but I think it works. When we toppled Saddam's government in Iraq, we looked at the situation and decided that if we wanted a democratic government to stand, we to deal the people of Iraq in. We ran our infrastructure, economic development, and peacekeeping efforts through the Baghdad government so that people wouldn't rise up against the Baghdad government. Deal them in, they won't knock off the government.

Is this metaphor supposed to suggest that once Bushie has managed to get his weight down, he'll die from complications of the surgery?

I've been trying to convince him to get gastric bypass surgery for a while, but he refuses. Therefore, my conclusion is that he enjoys being morbidly obese.

obviously if the weather was 10-15 degrees warmer today, bushie would be out walking.

serious question bushie:  compared to other members of your church are you seriously overweight, slight overweight, or just about average?

Will you tell us how many slices you're gonna have?

I'll tell you this evening how many I had.

This is the pride thing I was alluding to earlier. You don't have to boast, "I'm 290 pounds and proud of it" to come across as totally oblivious and ignorant at best. You're unapologetic about the junk you put in your body despite telling everyone (for years) how much you want to change.

Good advice gets largely ignored.

Pleas for moderation are laughed at.

And no, I don't think you should have to eat kale dogs and hipster breath tonight. I won't. But I think you ought to balance your "Super Bowl" days with a balanced, healthy diet and plenty of exercise every other day. That's the pride I'm talking about ... you gloat about the unhealthy crap you'll eat tonight because, well, football, but you do nothing to offset it. Ever.

I said what I did not out of ignorance, but not knowing how hungry I'll be in 3 or 4 hours.  I have never said, nor have I EVER implied that I'm proud of being 290.  Unapologetic?  I didn't know I had to apologize for eating what I want to?  I am not going to apologize to anyone, especially anyone on this forum, for what I put into my body.  What I eat, whether healthy or not, is not for the forum to judge.  The forum has NO RIGHT to judge me for ANY action that I EVER make.

Then don't ever post here again. Ever. It's that simple. When a man who is constantly unemployed and who is 5'8" and knocking on 300 lbs shares his life with the world, he's bound to hear some feedback, advice and chastisement when he claims to want to change but makes no effort to do so.

If you're proud of yourself and how you live, let that be it. Don't post another word here. Ever. Because with constant health issues and employment problems, people who actually care may offer you feedback on such things. Don't want to hear it? Then stop posting here for good and seek comfort in those who ignore your problems.

Yeah most of us here post because we actually do care about Bushie, but he tends to take advice as an insult, because I think he believes he has all the right answers.

The days of me trying to give him advice are over, because when you pound your head into a wall for 5 years, at some point you have to realize you'll never break it. Bushie, as slothful, prideful and gluttonous as he is, will never change because no one in his life will ever challenge him to do so. Being fat is part of life in his culture, as is most of what he does in life. It is seen as normal. Being 300 pounds isn't bad.

I just sit back and read his tale these days because that's what it is to me. I can't feel bad for someone who doesn't care about themselves. I can pity them, but I am not upset anymore. I hope he gets to 300 pounds because it's what he wants, and I hope he enjoys that pizza tonight while watching the game!

Being as fat as Bushie is not in anybody's culture. It may be somewhat more common amongst the churchy set, but Bushie is an outlier anywhere other than a morbid obesity support group. I suppose it's more accepted by his people than by ours, but that's it. Honestly, I think everybody here could deal with Bushie better if he just admitted that his problem is beyond his capacity to control. We all know that's the case, but he pretends like he or Jesus has power over this, when that's not at all the case.

You know what? A person who is verging on 300lbs and is at 5'7" should be embarrassed and should be being judged. You don't have a medical condition that means you can't lose weight (thyroid? some weird fluid/fat retention thing)... it's all lifestyle and some genetic elements.

Fundamentally, what it comes down to is your childish view of food and your responsibility for your own welfare. You talk about responsibility, but you take it on in name only. Your parents and grandmother fix your problems for you, they're your enablers. I'm sure they don't intend to, but they are. The food issue continually perplexes me. You KNOW, not think, but KNOW that your diet is doing untold damage to your body. When basic levels of restraint are recommended... what's the response? You act like you're being told to eat lettuce and only lettuce and water until the day you die. You treat it like you're being punished if you reduce your fat, sugar and salt levels. Trust me bub, it's nothing compared to diabetes (just because your parents have theirs controlled, doesn't mean yours will be so easy, especially considering your inability to restrain yourself), congestive heart failure, circulatory problems etc etc...

The idea that you keep finding excuses to avoid eating healthy, it's a weekend (Friday inclusive... or if Papa has the day off, Thursday!), it's a holiday (real or invented), it's a major national event. No one who is serious about getting even a little bit healthy would act like this. This is your life. My 5 year old niece has a better relationship with food than you do. I dare say my 2.5 year old nephew has a more diverse and healthy diet.

There are people here who have actually tried to help you, many, I even wanted to for a time, but you've rejected anything you didn't want to hear and then lashed out when things go bad or you get called out.

For all the noise about people not respecting you... how about you at least show some respect to the people who have tried to help you. And just be honest, you don't want to do anything that's difficult, uncomfortable or requires you to give up anything you like.

Bushie, what sort of snacks do you like? Don't lie and say you don't snack. Everybody does. Do you eat chips, snackie cakes, nuts, candies, pretzels, ice cream, cheesy poofs, jerky, popcorn? Inquiring minds want to know. I like nuts and popcorn. I think store bought baked goods with preservatives don't taste right. I love ice cream way too much, so I don't buy it. I can't stop eating it once I start and could easily be super fat if I didn't know that I have to avoid it.

The forum has NO RIGHT to judge me for ANY action that I EVER make.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and agree with Jeff. It's ridiculous to expect him to diet on a weekend, especially Super Bowl Sunday of all days. He's being careful with what goes on the pizza and not even getting dessert. Maybe tomorrow he should treat himself to Braum's to compensate for going to the dentist that day. And then, since he's not working, technically every day of the week is a weekend, so there's really no way he could do any kind of dieting while he's unemployed - which there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH.

For now, the best thing is for Jeff not to make any drastic changes. Keep going to church and reading The Bible and if the Lord wants Jeff to be of a normal weight, then Jeff will wake up one morning and suddenly only weigh 150 pounds. Some of you negative nancies and atheists will mock me for my faith in this. DO NOT MOCK MY FAITH. Keep your opinions to yourself and if you feel the need to say anything, make sure it is nothing but agreeable and non-critical and does not attempt to question what Jeff does in any way.

He knows what he needs to do better than you do. His life is going better than it ever has been and NONE OF YOU HAVE ANY RIGHT TO SAY OTHERWISE.

... if the Lord wants Jeff to be of a normal weight ...

Ecclesiastes 6:9
Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the appetite: this also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Philippians 3:18-20
For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

Leviticus 3:17
It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations, in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.

Daniel 1:12
Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink.

Genesis 1:29
And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

1 Corinthians 3:17
If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Deuteronomy 32:15
But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook God who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.

Proverbs 21:20
Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.

Proverbs 23:2
And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

Sure, Word of God ... but what does that f[inks]ing guy know, anyway ...

Better question: Does Jeff request a seatbelt extender from the cabin crew, or does Papa have to devote a whole three months salary to a business class ticket?

First off, let me apologize to the forum and especially those who have been trying to give me non-judgmental advice.  I should not have lashed out earlier like I did.  I really do appreciate the advice I'm given.  If I could get my head out of the "me vs. the forum" frame of mind, I'd be in much better shape.

Second, I just ordered the pizza and Pepsi and they should be here in about 45 minutes.  I still don't know how much I'll eat, but I will indulge, but behave.

Third, tomorrow night I am going to scramble myself a couple eggs and have a light supper.  Tuesday night, I am planning on spaghetti.  I've got stuff I can eat here at the house all week and should be able to limit my eating out to maybe once this week until Friday night.

Right now, I only take up one seat with a normal seat belt.  I definitely need to watch it, though, before that changes.  The thing with my weight is it's all gone to my stomach and not my sides.  So, looking at me from straight back of me, I look almost normal, but looking at me from the side and it looks like I'm 9-months pregnant...

Bushie have you tried the Retromike Diet?

I tried to go on a diet a few months ago by eating only healthy food, and I just stayed at the same weight. So I changed my mind and ate very unhealthy food like KFC and ghetto burgers. Well I got food poisoning from that, but I also ended up losing more weight than from the healthy diet.

And see if Bushie ate okay otherwise there would be nothing wrong with splurging over a two-day period that includes both the Super Bowl and a dentist's appointment. The fact that that's a counterfactual is what seems to not sink in.

I had a goal to out-eat you today, but I was only able to go 5 slices. I tried very hard, but I woke up late and had my eating schedule get thrown off so the 3:30 lunch basically destroyed that chance.

Still, unbelievable. You should have all the motivation not to be doing that much.

I just ate a pint of s'mores ice cream, so I might have gotten close to Bushie's 6 pizza slice meal calorie total for today.

But my meal was only roasted chicken breasts with a quinoa kale salad so doubt it.

I also doubt Bushie didn't eat anything else all day but 6 slices of pizza and a pepsi.
