We've got a few of these threads already, so let's avoid the inevitable and talk about all the other threads.

Feel free to bring up anything, although elections with a big swing towards a given candidate are pretty easy for that candidate.

I don't see the harm in continuing to do separate threads for each category. Is there a concern about cluttering up the board?

1976 Ford to 1980 Carter-Socially Liberal Atheist (possible old school liberal Republican or independent) who fears that Carter is a bible thumper but sees Reagan embracing and is scared of the religious right.

1928 Smith to 1932 Hoover-Tammany Hall oriented NYC Irish Catholic Democrat with axes to grind with the FDRs wing of the New York State Democratic Party.

1948 Dewey to 1952 Stevenson-Career academic possibly from a patrician Ivy League background and a lifelong Republican who identifies with the egghead Stevenson.

Some are easy. Stevenson-Goldwater? Virtually the entire (white) deep South. Ford-Mondale? Liberal Jews in Brookline or Newton, Mass. Kerry-McCain? Poor rural whites in WV, KY, TN, AR. Others are harder. Goldwater-Humphrey or Mondale 84-Bush 92 are nearly impossible to imagine.
