Wow, they actually put an Agenda 21 conspiracy theorist in charge of something? Amazing.

So the Tea Party gets the GOP response and have one of their own. 😃 Underestimate Joni to your detriment it shall.

MAKE EM SQUEAL, JONI!

I see the RINOs and the wingerleft extremists are upset - they are afraid of women from the heartland who talk sense

We can also find out whether she makes sense at all. My first impression is of a new Sarah Palin.

"We'll make 'em squeal!"

I don't expect too much, but I'm sure Joni Ernst will do fine. Her victory speech was something of an anomaly for her in terms of televised appearances. She's very telegenic.

I don't get people think Capito would've been the face. She's from a state that is considered GOP central now, not very engaging, mostly known for keeping her head down and working. Why would you want a person like that doing the big address of the year?

Any "moderates" left in the Republican party would be leaving right about now. Wait, the actual moderates such as Weicker, Specter, Chaffee, and Jeffords already left.

Weicker, Chaffee and Jeffords were no moderates. Let's make that clear. Weicker was so leftwing that he wasn't just to Lieberman's left, he was also to Chris Dodd's left. Not a great accomplishment, but come on man.

SOTU response /=/ convention keynote

That being said, I won't be suprised if Ernst runs for president in 2024 or 2028, provided she doesn't lose reelection between now and then.

Wonderful news! I was worried she'd keep her head low and work on being a good senator, but it looks like she's ready to go full Ted Cruz and become a one-termer.

Does anyone else feel this is going to be neither bad nor good for Republicans? The response is always scripted and boring. She'll probably come across as competent and no one will care. Which is a raging success for these responses.

It's too risky.  If she comes across as a bitch it's REALLY bad.  If this is the best the pubs have it's RIP 2016

Makes sense.

She won in a purple state. She's not a white guy. And she has a background that Republicans are happy to promote.

Disappointing, I would have gone with Moore-Capito with Gardner as the second choice.

Joni Ernst is the real-life version of Professor Umbridge.

I quit her speech after 10 seconds ...

It actually wasn't terrible. Ernst spent a lot of time going into her personal life, referenced the 'failure' of ObamaCare and the 'greatness' of Keystone, spoke about the 'message' voters sent in November, and - to my surprise - talked about making congress more functional.

I am not her biggest fan, but you either A) didn't watch it or B) are a completely unreachable partisan hack (who the address wasn't meant for anyway) if you think that was some awful speech...

Substitute "at Hogwarts" with ...

* in Congress
* in America
* in the White House

etc. etc.
