Fellow Atlasians—

Welcome to my office at the Department of the Interior! In the past, I have served as a Legislator in the Imperial Dominion of the South, an at-large Senator, Chairman of a major political party, and Secretary of Internal Affairs. I’m pleased that the president has put his faith in me to serve this country once more.

Over the remainder of this term in office, I’ll be issuing directives, statements, and estimates which will be linked in the opening post of this thread—consider it your go-to place for everything related to the Department of the Interior. In addition, below you’ll find links to other projects I may be working on at any given time.

My main goal over the next two months is to show that the position of Secretary of the Interior still has an important place in this game as a provider news, a bridge between all levels of government, and a member of the administration. As such, you can expect that I’ll work closely with the administration, regions, senate, and press to make this game a more interactive and immersive experience for everyone.

I hope you’ll follow along with interest, ask questions when you’ve got them, and let me know how I’m doing as time moves along.

Thanks,

HagridOfTheDeep
Secretary of the Interior

I can provide you with my own link, if you wish to publish at your main page. It has been 6 weeks, so it may be interesting to have it here...

STATEMENT from the Secretary of the Interior
ON THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT and INVESTING IN OUR PEOPLE

Secretary HagridOfTheDeep spoke today on the anticipated passage of the Civil Rights Act.

NYMAN, DC (2015.01.27)—

Fellow citizens, I stand here today a proud Atlasian. After months of work, the senate is finally poised to pass the Civil Rights Act—a triumph for our friends and neighbours who for too long have fallen through the cracks of our society. Not only does this legislation provide protections and safe space to members of the LGBTQ community, but it also promises to tackle the earnings gap between men and women and repay the descendants of indigenous and enslaved Atlasians for the crimes our government committed against them in the not-so-distant past. I congratulate the senate on their historic work.

Our next steps as a nation will be just as difficult, and I will leave it to greater women and men than myself to discuss how we begin to heal our national wounds and move on as one.

That being said, there is still work to be done in government, and I stand here today in part to outline this work. In passing the Civil Rights Act, the senate will provide $150 million in reparations to black and indigenous Atlasians. Over the coming days, per the law, I will issue a plan of action for the allocation of these funds. I urge the regions to play an active role in these discussions and offer their best suggestions—I continue to believe we see the best results when all levels of government are working together. I will indicate as much in my proposal.

At the end of the day, the price we pay now for these reparations is not a setback, but an investment in a group of people with ideas, innovations, hopes, and dreams. I understand there will be disagreements and I respect the right of our citizens to peacefully assemble. But I hope we can all remember that the recipients of this money are not villains or scoundrels, but people deserving of respect and dignity, just like you and me. We move forward together.

I ask the department to resind the most recent directive due to the potential threat to peaceful assembly and protest of The Civil Rights Act by this act's supporters. My concern is the government is taking the side of the supporters and will hinder peaceful protest by the opponents of the act.

While I appreciate your concern, local law enforcement will be taking precautions and planning response scenarios regardless of whether they receive information from the federal government. My directive will provide the counties with information on specific threats if we have reason to believe that lives are at stake. In a way, information sharing will allow our police forces to focus on real threats without having to waste time making problems for people who are lawfully assembling. I am confident that the current measures strike an appropriate balance between respecting the rights of protesters to assemble and keeping our citizens safe.

My office is in the midst of drafting a report on potential courses of action re: the CRA's reparations packages. Although the bill is not yet law, I think it's prudent to be prepared in the event that I'm required to complete this task, particularly with a transition of power scheduled to happen in the not-so-distant future.
