Class 1 has leaned heavily D since the Clinton era.  Class 2 has gotten heavily R since G.W. Bush, but it could be interesting in 1992-96.  Class 3 will be the most interesting, I wonder if there is enough to counteract NY/CA/IL.

Edit: Surprised that Obama actually won Class 2 in 2008.

Sorry, I don't know why of what I could've done to lock this, but its back with popular vote numbers. These take a little longer to do, so I'll probably only do 2012 and 2008 for now.

Senate Class 1

2012:

Obama: 50,282,006 (52.5%)
Romney: 43,832,945 (45.8%)

2008:

Obama: 53,125,473 (54.3%)
McCain: 43,315,604 (44.3%)

Senate Class 2

2012:

Romney: 34,028,339 (50.3%)
Obama: 32,477,827 (48.0%)

2008:

Obama: 34,221,045 (50.1%)
McCain: 33,287,605 (48.7%)

Senate Class 3

2012:

Obama: 48,537,620 (51.5%)
Romney: 43,962,954 (46.7%)

2008:

Obama: 51,158,914 (53.4%)
McCain: 43,258,703 (45.2%)

So Class 2 is really Republican while 1 and 3 now lean slightly Dem?

Class 1 is about 3 points to the left, Class 2 is about 6 points to the right, and Class 3 is about 1 point to the left. Keep in mind class 2 is significantly smaller than 1 and 3.

Putting CA and NY on the same schedule is quite odd.
