There is a wide open spot in South Carolina (just like there was supposed to be last time before he blew it).

He was supposed to be the Republican savior in August 2011, so those who underestimated him at that point certainly had a great return on investment.

A Romney/Bush/Huckabee/Perry/Carson/Paul/Cruz debate would be priceless.

This is shaping up to be one of the most fun primary campaigns in American history.

He won't be on pain meds this time.

Does the George W. Bush formula still sell in the primaries and the general? I'm concerned it could.

Why are all these people (on both sides) such ditherers compared to those who ran in 2008? Just outright say if you're running or not.

He wasn't ready last time, but he has done the prep and I think he will be a contender. As I have said before, he is just one good debate performance away from getting back into the top tier.

His glasses make him pretty formidable.  The only Democrat I can see beating him in a general election is Bearded Richardson.

He isn't ever going to be ready.  No amount of prep is going to fix stupid.  Couple that with weak political instincts (he originally began dropping in the polls after his tone deaf response to an immigration question I believe) and I don't see how he persuades donors or the grassroots that he's their guy.

He's won three terms and beat Kay Bailey Hutchinson (who at the time was basically the most popular Republican in TX;and had the backing of the Bushes) in 2010 largely because he does have great political skill. He was able to sniff out the anti-Washington, anti-Establishment mood among voters (especially in a Republican primary) and adjusted the campaign accordingly.

His problem in 2012 was that he just plain wasn't prepared (and he was also hopped up on pain meds), and he still rushed into it hoping for an easy win.

I'd give him a higher chance of winning the primary over hyped people like Chris Christie.

That would be an interesting general election to watch.

What was fixed about Bush?

Other than his dog

Nothing was fixed, but I believe the point was that Bush was still elected President. Twice.

George W. Bush knew that it was all about the expectations game. If Perry wins, then he has learned from the lessons of W.
