Yes, among others. Usually easy rhythm, traditional instruments (violin, harp, flute, dulcimer), often sung in dialect... Sometimes it's also played by an Austrian "brass band", which has all variants of brass instruments, wind instruments, drums etc...

No, it's also in now way a traditional song. It's from a band that solely existed to get some more Germans that like the "(oh so) traditional folklore music" to leave some money.

Yeah, it's become immensely popular again in the last years. At any given festival in Austria you'll see loads of people wearing Dirndl or Lederhose, especially at summer festivities outside.
