I'm pretty sure religious freedom is fairly easy for non-citizen oil company workers. Pay is pretty swell too from what I hear.
Yep, pay is good, benefits are top notch, Islamic laws aren't enforced inside the compouns, security efforts have been upgraded. All in all, the dangers are worth what you get paid.
In general you can make a crapload of money as an oil company worker if you're willing to travel. I know someone who spent several years as an engineer for some oil company up in Alaska (150K+ a year) and is currently using that money to fund a business venture.
I'm sure Saudi Arabia pays even better though. The percieved danger is way higher than the actual. Oil companies literally hire private armies to protect those compounds, I'd feel safer working for them in Saudi Arabia than I would for an American company in Compton.
