New England TD.

Okay, maybe this is a stupid question, but can one of you serious football geeks can explain to me why the penalty was declined when the Seattle player bumped into Gostkowski's leg, about the middle of the first quarter.  I was about halfway paying attention but it looked like a five-yard penalty was called.  Then it was declined.  I heard the color guy talking about how he thought it should be fifteen yards, but I guess I was sort of in the middle of a conversation with my wife about something or other and missed the gist of the comment.

Edit:  and I also voted for Seattle earlier today, but it was just a wild guess.

52 votes and it's a tie as of now.
I picked Seattle, but didn't put my vote on the board...

Another New England TD.  Really nice one by Gronkowski!

I just heard that Seattle leads the league in penalties.  I still don't understand all the flag rules.  They seem more complicated than the game itself.

The commercials are even more mystifying.  Now the Big Lebowski is chanting "om" over a body.  What the hell are they advertising?

Slavic names are very much in vogue tonight, it seems.

Whoa!  Wilson completed with a bullet to the endzone to tie it up for the half.  (Well, I took a piss after the play but I'm assuming that the extra point was goo.)  What a night, boys and girls.

I don't know about that specific play, but usually a penalty will be declined if it is something that would nullify the play (offensive pass interference, say) and the actual result of the play would be more favorable to the other side (incompletion on 3rd down leading to a punt situation in that scenario). The penalty rules are pretty complicated, though I find basketball to be worse in that regard.

I think the issue was that if they took the penalty, they'd re-kick the punt.  While it would have been punted from a more advantageous spot, NE was pretty happy with where the existing punt landed, and the fact that there wasn't much of a return.  So why bother re-kicking the punt, and erase what was already a pretty good one?

Yeah using live fireworks, for "Firework" is an impressive touch. Safe to say Katy's become a star like Lady Gaga or Beyonce (speaking of which, why not have Lady Gaga do next year's Super Bowl?)

Beyonce and Katy Perry are too good to compare them to Lady Gaga.

PiT and Morden, thanks to both of you.  That makes sense.  The outcome was acceptable, as I recall, enough to make them want to keep it.

I also agree that the halftime show was entertaining.  I was really hoping for a wardrobe malfunction, but the glowing orbs, flaming stars, fireworks, urban outfitters, and loop earrings were very well done.  As for the beachballs and sharks, though, let's just agree never to speak of that.

It's not about how good they are, it's about how much airplay, albums sold, singles sold, downloads etc. someone has, last time I checked.

Nice endzone catch by seattle receiver.  Just now it's looking good for Seattle.

Katy and Beyonce are far greater stars than Lady Gaga.

Strange at the end.  It looked at first like Seahawk #15 fell to the ground before he caught it.  I'd have thought that it was incomplete.  Advantage:  Seattle.  Then, it was 2nd and goal at the end of the fourth quarter and there was an interception by a community college grad from Mississippi and New England gets a turnover.  Of course there was some very sportsmanlike conduct by seattle that cost them enough yards to lose the game.  All in all it was a very unpredictable one.

Congrats to the Patriots.

And the Patriots win 28-24! Cheesy

I'm kind of glad I watched the Super Bowl this year. It was close as heck right down to the end, and the Seahawks came so, so close to getting the last touchdown and the win. Sportsmanship fell right out the door after that block by the Pats, though.

A congratulations is in order to Brady and Co. for a hard-fought victory.

I've never been happier to be wrong about the outcome of a sporting event. Glad to see Seattle lose.

Any time you have the ball on the half yard line and you have a RB nicknamed beats mode for his ability to shed tackles, you just have to throw a dangerous slant.  That was idiotic and unforgiveable.

Yeah.  Carroll ought to lose his job over that.  I could see maybe doing that on third down or if the Seahawks had less time and no timeout, but on second down with plenty of time to go, that pass made zero sense.
