I thought this figure was interesting:

http://www.pewresearch.org/files/2015/01/FT_15.01.15_births.png

I never really thought about it before, but I never realized that the number of births per year in the US had stayed so flat since the end of WW2.  The country's population was only ~180 million in 1960, yet the number of births per year was about the same as it is today (if not slightly higher).

The number of births hit a peak in 1921 at 3 million...then dropped to 2.6 million by 1930 as immigration halted and their higher birth rates with it...then fell to a low of 2.3 million by 1932-1937.  Then the 'boom' began.  Births rose to 3 million again by 1943.  Then after the war, exploded to 3.8 million in 1947 after only 2.8 million in 1945.  By 1957 the birth rate peaked and tne number of births was at 4.3 million.  It stayed above 4 million from 1954 to 1964.  But, with the exception of draft babies in 1969/1970, fell to 3.1 million by 1973-1976.  Then it rose gradually to 4.1 million in 1990 and has fluctuated from 3.9 to 4.3 million since.  Baby boomers were the least fertile, by far, of any American generation...lower than the Xers that came after them.

Boomers also committed more crimes and had more abortions..especially older boomers.  The Torie types...

Boomers also committed more crimes...

It's not their fault. It's all the lead their parents' generation put in the air.

People don't actually believe that to be the primary reason for the crime boom, do they?

In fact the evidence is quite compelling as the correlation holds across multiple instances in multiple countries at multiple times with an almost spot on match with a twenty year lag.

Even small concentrations of lead 20 times smaller than previously assumed safe levels reduces IQ by 7 points.  And the specific ways that this lead impacts the brain would easily explain increased criminality as the lead reduces your ability to control emotions or aggression, and increases impulsivity...all things associated with crime.

There is actually quite a large body of evidence to support this (these are the scientific papers listed in the mother jones article.

-Higher concentrations of lead in the fetus are directly correlated higher crime rates during adulthood, about 20 years later.

-There is a recorded spike and decline in lead concentrations due to the use of leaded gasoline.

-There is an identical spike in the rise and decline of crime rates, except 20 years later, about the time it takes for a newborn to reach adulthood.

-This correlation is found in every country and city studied.  The rise and fall of lead in the atmosphere is different in each of these cities and countries, yet the rise and fall of crime changes in each area to match the lead peak.

Feel free to post scientific papers supporting your viewpoint.

He was trying to scoff confidently at it like "lawlerskates you bozos acshully balieve that sh**t lulz"

No worries...my father is the same way.  Convinced it was just a rash of people that wanted to get up to no good for no reason and the obvious answer is more cops and prisons cuz Giuliani saved New York.

Please don't troll on threads where I'm trying to have a conversation with Snowguy. It's too confusing.
