Great site - I've been moving Australia around and covering Europe, etc.

Once when an ice shelf split off Antarctica, the national US media showed it to be as large as Rhode Island.   The local Houston media showed it to be as large as Harris County, and included the interstate loop (I-610) and some prominent buildings on their maps.

An Ice Sheet the size of Harris County dragged to Rhode Island

nice that it gives an equal area comparison by constantly changing the frame of reference for the projection of the shape equidistant with reference to the map.

I didn't realize Texas was so close to the size of Ontario, or Alaska!

So...a wasteland.  Just a very big one with a bit of extra gunky oil under it and a crappy arrogant attitude...

The area superimposed upon has far more economic viability.

To me, the fact that California still walks all over Texas says a lot.  Texas is the 6'7" guy with ED and a 3.5"er.  All truck and no business

And yet they could likely have high speed rail first (what with the not boring through mountains thing)

Too bad the google map on this feature doesn't show the boundaries of cities when you type that city in.  I wanted to do this for Buckeye, Arizona (the subject of this thread on the Atlas Forum)!

Edited to add: it would still be possible to outline it, as Buckeye's boundaries with other cities/areas in grey are small enough and mostly along longer boundaries of one or the other that you could approximate it pretty well.  But it would take a lot of time to really do Buckeye justice.

I've driven all the way from Texarkana to El Paso. It's true it's a large space. It would have been far less unpleasant if had been smaller.  Also

This is why Texas needs to be split up into separate states.

Be careful , you might get 6 right wing nuts as Senators versus just two.

Yes, you'd need to split at least 3 ways to get a non-gerrymandered D-PVI state of South Texas.  And the price would likely be a likely R East California

Thank you!  That what I always hated most about Texas, that they act like their backwards wasteland of a state is like... the epitome of America.

We can divide California and NY as well too.

Every borough of NYC gets 2 Senators and Staten Island is given back to Italy.
